to residents and m4s:
anybody know the latest you can take step 2 for peds residency programs so that your score can be included in your profile before interviews? thanks for your help.

also, does anybody know the worst your step 1 exam score should be to be considered for medium to very competitive programs around the nation? thanks again!

i can tell you this, my step one score was 2 teens and i am at a top three place, and step 2 was not much better. so its all about the whole application. i thought i was doomed but things worked out!

You can take step II during mid-January, and all of the programs that you applied to will download your step II score when the score is released in early February. However, some programs will have already made up their mind about you by then, so for those programs, your step II score is probably not going to cause them to re-open your app to re-evaluate you. The last day for programs to submit their rank list is Feb 25th, but many programs decide well before then. In general, if you want your step II to count, it's advised that you take your step II so that you can receive your score prior to going on an interview so that you can tell your interviewer if he or she asks and it will be sure to be used in evaluating you. I agree with the previous poster though, in that raw numbers like your USMLE scores aren't nearly as important in peds as they are in some of the more competetive specialties where they are used as a screening tool.
