For background, US MD, I got 220s on step 1, 210s for ck. Uworld average was around 60% for first pass and I did it twice.

I thought I had a good grasp for the test but I procrastinated with Uwsa and did it less than 5 days from my test day and got 188. After going through the questions I thought to myself, "oh these are dumb mistakes, I definitely wouldn't do this on the real test." I was wrong. Things like lights criteria, which receptor for this drug I commonly prescribe, h pylori connection to peptic ulcers, lithium side effects and more all flew out the window.

Day 1 legitimately flagged 40% of questions although most of them were between two or three questions. There was one section or two where it was less than that but not enough to feel hopeful. Biostats was biostats and was fairly straightforward. The drug ads were odd. On one page it would say "you may use this medication with X" then on the next page it would say "do not use this medication with x due to side effects" then the question would ask why use this medication over x. Plus ethics felt really tough for some. I just picked the one where I apologized for everything.

Day 2 went better but closer to uworld (as in I was hoping for my average of 60% or more). I was noticing I was flagging at least 12-15 questions out of the 30 although I was fifty fifty for most of them.

Ccs cases went okish. I didn't come up with a solution for one and heme onc didn't come up with anything despite the pancytopenia, one the stupid surgeons didn't want to do anything about the ascending aneurysm and a third I sent home with a subdural before rushing them back. To be fair, I went all out with preventative and orders (I'm talking microalbumin/cr ratio, pneumonia shots, etc) but those 10 min cases were effectively 6 min bc of the lag in software. I do think seeing the grading with ccs cases helped out for this.

Overall, after day 1 I felt destroyed. I knew the best predictor is your step 2 score and mine sucked. It didn't help failing Uwsa. Everyone says you score 20 points higher but after my test days I didn't think it would apply. Being the neurotic person I am, I'd remember a decent chunk of puzzling questions and would look up which ones I got wrong or not. For day 1 I got at least 21 wrong and on day 2 at least 17 wrong.

Overall, my score was 224 (smack average) and everything scored up as "same."

In terms of reousrces uworld helped the most. There were indeed at least 7 questions that were exactly like a uworld question.

I told myself if I did pass I'd post this so some other sad sap could read this. I did not check to see if the step 3 trick works bc I was honestly too scared, but scouring through every post online ever posted I came down to the conclusion that it is unreliable bc people have said the trick worked but eventually failed. I would caution anybody in the future to use the trick.

Thank you for your experience. I have my test in a few days and it really helped me to calm down 🙂

"I just picked the one where I apologized for everything." lmao
