Hey everyone,

just a quick question - how important (if at all) is a good step 3 score for getting into fellowship. I know that our creog scores will matter, but just wondering if they look to see if you just passed step 3 or if they pay attention to how well you did.

I'm looking into MFM fellowship in case y'all are wondering.

thanks 🙂

Hi Oscar,

Having gone through the application process, and now being on the interviewing side, I can honestly tell you that we hardly look at at the CREOGS or Step 3 scores. Out of the 16 people we've looked at so far, I only looked at one set of Step 3 scores and that was because the applicant had actually sent in a copy of the score report with the application. Generally it blends in with the rest of the application, and as long as its a passing score, no one looks or comments on it. In my own case, I was never asked about my scores, and out of the places I applied (over 10, east coast), only 2 applications asked for the specific score.

Having said that, here is what is looked at alot (both here, as well as places I interviewed at/got questioned about):
1. Research experience
2. Publications
3. Presentations
4. Availability of resources at your program for research and how it compares to your productivity
5. Clinical training
6. Letter of recommendation
7. Interview day experience (attiutude, body language, "fitting in" potential)
8. Everything else

Hope this helps. Best of luck with the application process!
