I’m having a hard time finding Step 1 averaged for a variety of Anesthesia program. I was wondering what score I would need to remain competitive at most programs including the highly ranked ones?

You need a good step score for the highly ranked programs... it’s impossible to say what the number is. As for matching into anesthesia? If you have the national average you’ll match.

To get a general idea about the field look at Charting Outcomes In The Match
For specific programs go to Freida and agree to the usual nonsense:
Then search for Anesthesiology Programs
Look at each program. The "Program & Faculty" tab might tell you the minimum Step 1 and Step 2 scores for the program as well as the average for the program. Not every program in Freida has a "Program & Faculty" tab. Furthermore, some of the data might not be accurate.
Do a search within SDN about every program where you might have a shot.
Good Luck.

@nimbus I guess I am just trying to gauge what I should be aiming for on Step in order to match back into California. I am originally from CA and would love to do residency at one of the UC programs. Moral of the story here is to just try my @ss off on Step 1 and go from there lol

I mean would knowing a certain score make you study any more or any less? It’s not like having a specific cutoff step score should change how you study for step haha. Obviously the better you do the better chance you have of matching to California.

Meh, honestly it did for me. Don't get me wrong, I still tried, but I could've done a lot more in retrospect. At the time I just kind of resigned myself to not having to try as hard cause I knew I was only really into IM/Peds. Was more focused on my personal life and maintaining my sanity lol. Watched a lot of netflix, played xbox, worked out. I didn't really get into Step study mode til like 2 weeks before the exam.

But that's just the story of my life (studied the night before undergrad exams, studied 2 weeks for MCAT, usually a week or so for each med school exam - NOT bragging cause I didn't do well, I just did enough to get by).
