Step Up vs. Step up to Step 2

Anyone have any opinion on Step up to medicine vs. Step up to Step 2. I was wondering which is better for step 2 purposes when used with U World questions. Thanks 👍

I was wondering the same. From everybody's experience who have taken step 2, is it better to have one review book with everything inside and you can add what you need or is it better to use individual books from each core for your preparation for step 2. I would think Step up to step 2 is an easier approach for a quick review. Any input would be greatly appreciated! 🙂

Don't bother with either one. The only two sources you need are USMLE World and Step II Secrets.

I have both, didn't use either one. Score >265 with these two sources and about 40 total study hours. The key is learning a lot third year.


So, if you learned a lot as a MS3, you are golden. If you didn't, then you may want to read another book. Don't bother with Step Up to medicine, there just isn't that much medicine on the exam. I would read kaplan surgery, secrets, and some other source for OBGYN and Peds, because both were very prominent on my form and all the forms of fellow classmates.

I agree with UW and Secrets... I only got a 261 though, so take that for what it's worth =P

If you really like the StepUp series (I wasn't totally in love with SU to Med) I would think maybe SU to Step 2 would be better... since Medicine doesn't really go into Ob, Peds, etc. But if you already own the Medicine one, it would be pointless IMO to buy the other.

I strongly disagree -- I thought medicine was really central to Step 2. Didn't do quite as well as radoncadonc, but still a 99.

I checked out both Step Up Medicine and Step Up to Step 2, and liked Medicine better. pmpkn219 is right that you need something to supplement for peds, psych, and OB -- and I thought Crush/Secrets sucked for OB.
