Stethoscope engraving - sound quality

I was wondering if anyone has had their stethoscope engraved (on the bell? Diaphragm?) from a local engraver and experienced any reduction in quality? I got mine as a gift and it came blank, but I'd like to keep it from growing a pair of legs and walking off, or at least make it less desirable to would-be stethoscope snatchers.

I seriously doubt your engraving is going to be the major shortcoming if you miss a murmur or bruit or crackle or wheeze.

My stethoscope has the brand name engraved on the back of the diaphragm. I haven't had a problem with it (though I also haven't used many other stethoscopes).

Unless the engraving pierces the metal, it shouldn't make a difference.
