I interviewed there over two weeks ago n haven't heard a peep. Any chance of hearing still? I heard something along the lines of them not having a wait list...

Any input would be appreciated

You haven't heard anything regarding being on a waitlist? Can you call to check your status?

They should have a waitlist (ranked or not, idk) because plenty of people turn down NYU if they get off from waitlists at state schools or cheaper schools.

Def contact them (calling is going to be better than emailing). Good luck dude, I know how much you wanted to go to NYU so I'll have my fingers crossed :xf::xf:

When I interviewed there, they said they had roughly 15-20% of their spots still open. Also, I'm assuming there is a handful of people with deposits down at NYU but they will withdraw because they also have a deposit down at a state school or somewhere cheaper.

dr. mejia said they don't do that

I think there are some spots open still. They will take you right away for the few spots left if they like you @ the interview, but I would assume you'd be on the bottom of the waitlist below everyone else if you don't get accepted now. Don't quote me on it though because I don't know how they rank the applicants on the waitlist.

You guys think a march interview spot has a shot at a direct acceptance then?

Yes, interviews are not for waitlists at NYU. Every applicant interviewed has an equal shot to get acceptance, be it in November or in March. NYU, in my opinion, is fair like that.

😕 an interview can result in an acceptance, rejection or waitlist. I dont believe schools interview for spots on the waitlist. If you are given an interview it can only mean that the school has spots left. If they dont quite like you, then they waitlist you.

methinks they do.

dr. mejia offered that tid bit about nyu voluntarily like it was a distinguishing thing.

There are schools that interview for waitlist spots. I can't think of any at the moment but there have been threads about this.

Does NYU interview for waitlists? I don't think so, or not quite. The thing is that their waitlist moves more frequently and maybe even quicker than most schools. This is because people drop them when they are accepted to cheaper schools. Is there class full right now? Don't think so, but it might be close. But you might get interviewed to replace someone who drops NYU before August.

I never heard of NYU doing that. I know the class isn't full yet, I have friends in the school. So at this point you are still interviewing for an active seat.

I've seen such posts while browsing through threads about certain schools. So I'm not going to look up every school specific thread that asks about recent interviews.

There is one school I know for sure that you will automatically put you on a waitlist if you interview in and after December, and that's Louisville. Everyone who interviewed in and after December got an email saying they had been put on the "Next to be contacted pool" which is basically their version of a waitlist. People have gotten off this list, but everyone gets this email.

Can you elaborate on that again? I'm confused how its different from what other schools do. ie. Determine who's going to accept/decline the offer and then give out the remaining seats to future interviewees.

Im being serious and not facetious, I am curious how their process works.

organicman22, there are plenty of students that will turn down NYU for cheaper schools. oddly enough for me, NYU was actually my cheapest option even without any scholarship (can commute from home). but yea, i've seen on multiple threads that students have turned down NYU even after sending in the full $5,000 deposit.

when i interviewed (01/23), the verdicts were emailed on the 1st and we had until february 15th to send in deposits. however, they only had to be post-marked by the 15th, so it's likely that they may wait a few more days for students who sent them in on that very last day to make any more decisions. there are also students i've seen who have turned down NYU on that very last day.

i mailed my deposit on the 15th and have yet to receive a confirmation email that it has been received, so it could be quite busy for them, as they are not only dealing with interviews, but also newly admitted students, financial aid paperwork, and possibly the logistics of getting international applicants squared away. i know the process is stressful, because im actually waiting on columbia's final decision and i interviewed there on 01/20, but hang in there! do u have any other acceptances?

Can I ask how NYU is cheaper for you than UMDNJ? Aren't you a NJ resident?

This is what I know:
Louisville has 120 seats. On Dec 1st, they send out 120 offers. The majority of this is OOS. So it's easy for them to lose OOS applicants to other schools (esp state schools). Hence they have a long waitlist for OOS applicants. Anyone who interviewed in December or after that automatically, within hours even, received a "Next to be contacted" email. If someone withdraws from the Dec 1st acceptance pool, someone from the waitlist is brought in. So now instead of interviewing for a spot, you're interviewing for a replacement spot.

NYU acutally has spots left. It's why some people who interviewed this month have been getting acceptance emails a week after their interview.

Ok well you're just throwing the wrong type of lingo. A true waitlist is when you interview pre or post Dec 1st and you will not be contacted until April when 100% of the seats have been offered.

It just seems that Louisville as a state school, similar to what Pitts did, gives out 100% of the offers pre dec 1st and then the post dec 1st fight for the remaining % of seats (for those decline the offer.) But that's still better than waiting until April to find out whether or not you've been accepted. You can technically be interviewed and accepted a lot earlier.

Correct me if I am wrong.

"The Next to be contacted" email goes out to applicants who have not been accepted or rejected regardless of when they interviewed. Hence, it's their version of a waitlist. Otherwise, you're telling me they don't have a waitlist. Just like how a waitlist can move every month or so, this list also moves. Plus people can be contacted days before classes if someone drops out. Sounds like a waitlist to me. If you're skeptical enough, you can ask on the Louisville waitlist forum. But no one who has interviewed in January or afterwards has been accepted, at least to my knowledge. They've just been placed on the "we don't call it a waitlist" waitlist.

This thread is for NYU so I prefer not to discuss Louisville any further. Search for their thread if you feel compelled to.

lol dont hate. You made your point. But yes NYU has nothing like Louisville.

Yes, you are right. I am a NJ resident and UMDNJ's tuition is cheaper, but I was just referencing my current options. However, UMDNJ is not near enough to a train station, from what I was told, to make commuting there possible, so I'd have to live on campus, and those added expenses make NYU a cheaper option (though not by a huge amount), because I could commute from home if I went there.

By the way, organicman22, if you check out the thread for the class of 2016 for NYU, there's at least one posting of being waitlisted. Also, there are quite a few on the massive thread of official interviews/acceptances/waitlists for the 2011-2012 cycle saying that they've been waitlisted at NYU.

I sent a thank you card after my interview, which I'm sure had little, if any impact, on their decision. I hand-wrote it and made specific references to things I actually enjoyed about that day, so it wasn't a generic, meaningless attempt at getting accepted lol. It might help!

Got my wait list letter for NYU yesterday. I was bummed but I guess I should be keeping positive because I will at least be going to dental school somewhere next year (deposit down at Roseman).
Anybody know how hard it is to get of NYU's wait list?

I didn't realize you had an acceptance, so congrats on that 🙂

Have you considered writing a letter of intent to NYU? In the letter, you can state that you will withdraw from Roseman if NYU gives you an offer. But do this if you are serious about NYU. Feel free to PM me if you have questions about this, I know a few people who wrote LOI's, and I wrote one too.

I don't know how "easy" it is per se to get off the waitlist. The most I can tell you is that plenty of people refuse NYU's acceptance offer for cheaper schools, and I've heard of people getting off the waitlist in April. So not all hope is lost.

im def one of those waiting on a (marginally) cheaper school. not to knock the school because I obviously like it but am just throwing it out there. the list will definitely move in may when students with multiple deposits have to pull out and commit to only 1
