So my friend who got into Western off the waitlist found out through snail mail last week. i shouldn't have been surprised since they sent out mar 15th decisions via snail mail too...

Thanks for the update. At least now I won't be checking my cell phone in class every few minutes. I've heard of so many people from California who either got into Western or were waitlisted, and from what I understand that's how they move their list, by an alternate that's pretty much the same diversity.
I'm starting to not count on anyone from NJ to say no, haven't heard of too many from the east coast declining, so while I'm hoping for the best, I'm expecting the worst. (Unless, of course, my off the alternate list letter is lost in the mail. Yes, that must be it!)🙄

so on my drive home from work today I saw a bumper sticker that read tufts university college of veterinary medicine (given I live in the town next to the campus, but I rarely ever see those) and less than 10min later I saw an oregon liscence plate RIGHT in front of me..these are the two schools im waitlisted at, just thought it was funny...

so i have to add that after all this happened, i went to the mailbox and there was a letter from oregon state...i get all excited, and open it, they want donations (i went there for two years in undergrad) - oh yea, all same day..hahaha

I called Western yesterday and they told me that they've only contacted 1 alternate so far for a spot. They are still meeting to decide on the other alternates and will send letters out to those people. I didn't get any numbers from her like how long the alternate list is and how many spots are open.

I don't get how they can drag out the process to be sooo long...

I called MSU today to get an update on the waitlist and here's what they told me:
They have already called a few alternates, both IS and OOS. This first batch of people have until May 16th to accept/decline. After they see how many decline, then they will call the next on the list. They still won't tell me a rank number, but the total OOS alternate list consists of 29 people.

So any fellow MSU waitlisters, I guess we shouldn't hold our breath again till the 16th. And the wait continues...

I also called WSU, with rather discouraging news.
Barbara said they have filled the class and are not offering an alternates positions at this time. She of course reminded me that things could change over the summer if someone drops out. There are 33 students in the "pool" (it is not ranked in any way). Spooty. 🙁

Looks like they have sent out a letter explaining the class is full and the new waitlist numbers (I recieved mine yesteday). I am 40 spots closer than my original waitlist number. So if you were waitlisted I would be expecting a small envelope soon. Wish I had better news.

Dang, that sucks Whyrightmeow, was it the only school u were waitlisted? Even so, there's always a small chance, after all lots of people pay the deposit that end up going to a different school. And at least they are letting alternates know I guess, Washington would not have told me if I didn't call🙁

Hi all, I called the U of M today to check on the IS waitlist. Larry told me that they are sending out letters with our updated WL numbers this week. I have moved up 4 spots, so there is some activity on the list.

so I haven't posted for several weeks. I called the school I am on the waitlist for on the 21st to find out how many people came off the waitlist after the April 15th deadline. I was hoping that it would be close to my number no such luck it is about halfway to my number and I just can't imagine that enough people will come off for me to get in this year.

Its so hard hearing how far down OOS lists go when you are on a small IS list that is unlikely to move. I have lost all hope for this year and I am trying to get excited about what I can do to improve my application. I won't be allowed to do an exit interview until end of June or July since I am on the waitlist🙁.

I called both schools to check on the OOS waitlists

Minnesota - Moved up 3 spots, and its fairly set except for those who change their mind.

Ohio - Moved up 30 spots, and they are just getting responses from the first set of waitlist offers.

I feel quite discouraged, but if I'm at #2, I may still have hope that SOMEONE will change there mind. Perhaps someone in state is waiting for an OOS waitlist call? *hopes*
I was #6. Larry sounded quite sure I would get in. Now I feel that is not going to happen. 🙁 I'm feeling pretty down about it right now, and I feel like I should just move on and assume I'm not getting in, but I can't help but feel a little hope.
This has been such a rollercoaster. Sorry for the rant, I had to vent some of my frustrations. 🙂

I feel your pain. I was #8 on the list. I just called him yesterday, so maybe it was close enough to when they are sending out letters to tell me my location on the list. When I met with him in April I also got the feeling that he felt I would get in. Of course he didn't come out right and say that, so...

It is frustrating to be so close, yet need to accept that it may not happen. I'm not looking forward to starting the process again in a month. On the other hand, I keep getting emails from Ross with the heading "Start vet school in the fall".

cinc0009 and BarksOT: Try to stay positive (but I know if I was in your position I probably wouldn't be)! I can't imagine nothing will change in the next 4 months. There have to be people waiting on OOS lists for their top choice school as well as people with things that will occur where they cannot attend. 4 months is a long time. I'm hoping for you!!!

Still borrowing your Dr. Suess line, Carrbear, but resigning myself to finish up classes and exams and then starting my list for the fall. I have gained so much from this forum, I've seen which schools seem to move for OOS, and it will really help me make up my list this year.
And I think I'm ready for my backup plan. I'm hoping WannaFixFlounder keeps posting from St. Kitts, because if I don't make it next cycle after adding more diversity for Western, well, Ross, here I come! 😳

I honestly feel that you have a better chance on the OOS wait lists. During my interview at the U they told me that they blew through the whole wait list for OOS last year. I think it just sucks because we don't know and don't have any idea when and if we may know. It's all so uncertain and out of our hands.

I'm with you. I went from thinking I had a great shot at Western, being from the East coast, diverse experience (so I thought!) name school, met their stats, same kind of interview most people described, to, wow, I'm waitlisted, but okay, still have a shot.
Now, I'm just trying to study for finals and not wondering if my mail came yet.
I'm almost afraid to look at my computer to see if anyone else got their letter.

I spoke to them recently. I think they've taken about 35 people off of the waitlist with a little less than 10 seats left...

I am so frustrated with the fact that Miss State doesnt give out any info as to where they are on the waitlist...the most info i got out of them is they are making strides and that it is a slow process
The lack of info is driving me crazy! I just want to know where i am on the list or at least how far they have gottten

Now that they've "filled" the class, will they give you any info, such as where on the list you are? If you're near the top there is still a chance a spot will open later (many people hold multiple spots while trying to get into a different school). I know it doesn't help with the bummed feeling, I feel like I'm in the same boat, but it helps to know the specific numbers I think.

Thanks!! I'll be going to KSU... Western is a wonderful school and I know several doctors that graduated from Western and are some of the best vets I know!! I truly look up to them. I would have loved to go to Western myself, but I really feel that I need a change in atmosphere... I need to get away for a while! GOOD LUCK!! I hope one of you get my spot!! 🙂🙂🙂

So, quick question for all of you hanging out on a wait-list. When are you guys planning on starting the next application cycle? Are you going to start working on it right away in June, or will you wait a bit with the hope that you get called over the summer? I don't want to do it under a time crunch if I wait, but I also don't want to sink a ton of time into it if I don't need to.

I've wondered the same. These schools tell me that's the case (like WSU), but it seems so impractical. But without numbers it's really the only option (either that, or einne-menne-minne-moe😳).
