Still under review at schools that have sent some preinterview rejections?

Anyone have any idea what's happening at schools ie Duke, Dartmouth, Stanford who should be close to finished with IIs, have rejected some folks pre-interview already, but keep some applicants "under review"? Meant to ask LizzyM during the AMA but missed it. Will the rest of us just get rejected once interview days are completely full? Why keep us hanging on for so long?

I think a lot of schools put borderline people on an unofficial hold to keep their options open. I just talked to UCSD and they told me that they have already looked at my application and decided not to interview at this time but they will look at it again in the next few weeks and have a concrete decision in the next month. I'm guessing this is about the same deal with the quiet schools unless they are one of those that do silent rejections 🙂mad🙂.

For Dartmouth, they have kind of a unique admissions procedure so you'll hear from them when you hear from them.

I feel like, schools like that are giving me false hope. I think I should be rejected from school X because they have way better stats but I applied back in July so why haven't they rejected me yet? They rejected a bunch of other folks.

I've been wondering this too. Either way, it's the opposite of good times 👎
