Hi all,

I am considering renting a great house for next year but some little nagging thing in the back of my mind makes me feel the need to check on the scheduled stipend increase in July before I sign anything. I know I received an official memo in the fall stating the increase to 1900 in July, but was just wondering if anyone has heard of any problems with funding, roadblocks etc to this happening. I can't swing it on the current stipend and dont want to get myself stuck. I am emailing my local HPSP guy as well but sometimes those emails take a while to get back to me. Thanks for the help 🙂

I don't want to speak for everyone, but I am pretty sure there will be some consensus. Your stipend is like the "Major Award" from the movie "A Christmas Story." All you count on is, you don't know what it is until it arrives.

The stipend will be for $1907 starting on 1 July 2008. There are no funding issues for this. Gonna happen.

Out of curiosity, when will I receive my first stipend check if I am commissioned this spring sometime? First month of the new school year (August)?

Hopefully. For me there was a 1.5 month delay between when school started and I received the first deposit. I did receive back pay though.

Just out of curiosity, are there any plans or suggestions to increase the stipend/bonus any more than they've already been increased? I don't think Navy is making quota yet...

Also, anyone know why $1907? Not $2000, not $1900, but $1907. Seems sorta random.

My guess is that they look at it often. Just a couple of years ago it was under $1300.

Don't try and use logic with the numbers, I'm just suprised that it was rounded to whole dollars. Board Cert. Pay is $208.33! What is that 33 cents all about? There are many more examples I'm sure.

Even though your pay was slow, did you have any problems getting your tuition paid on time...ditto with book allowance?

Should be the first or the fifteenth after school starts. (provided all the right paperwork is submitted.)

Makes perfect sense. Board Cert Pay is $2500/year (nice round number), which is the same as 208.33/month. $1907, however, doesn't come to a round number no matter what you multiply it by.

Both were delayed the first semester I was on scholarship, but eventually came. Things were more on the ball during the subsequent semesters.

The tuition was slow getting to my school during my 1st year, but I never caught any heat for it. The school was familiar enough with HPSP that they knew they would get paid. My books/fees reimbursement generally took 4-6 weeks and I never had a problem with it. The only books that would routinely get denied reimbursement were PreTest question books for shelf exams.

Can't really complain about that.

As long as your paperwork is in order you should recieve your 1st paycheck midmonth (august). I'm in the same situation as you. Make sure your direct deposit forms are filled out.

When I multiply 208.33 X 12, I get 2499.96. Maybe my calculator is broken?😉

I never had any problems getting reimbursed for anything that was required in the syllabus. If you would like another text (i.e. Cecil's instead of Harrison's or whatever) just have your prof or rotation advisor write a note that the text is required and you should still get reimbursed.

Keep in mind you will not be getting 12 full months of stipend support. M1 and M2 years its more like 9.5 or 10 months on stipend and then your 45 days at the O-1 pay rate (assuming you're not prior service or it's somehow less than 4 years). As an M3 its 10.5 months on stipend and 45 days at O-1 during your military clekship. As an M4 it would be more like 9 months on stipend and the 45 days at O-1 pay. It seems like 45 days at O-1 pay is around 4K, but I'm not certain about that number.
