Hello all,

I was discussing this with a fellow pre-dent and we were wondering what are typical stipulations attached to acceptances. Obviously the usual would be you must finish your degree, etc. However, has anyone come across something like specific GPA requirements or course completions that schools require prior to matriculation?

Basically I am wondering because I am considering dropping a course and taking a different one to fulfill a requirement for my degree next semester. I do not want to take a bad grade, but at the same time I don't want to take another course. Any thoughts?

You could defer your question to at least Dec. 1.

Ok, this is true. However, this is a question that I feel can be asked at any point in the application cycle. Obviously I am highly anticipating Dec. 1 and am skitzing out waiting for the next two days to slowly go by, but this is a fair question to ask prior to actually having an acceptance in hand.

So my 2 cents would be as long as you aren't dropping biochem to take basket weaving it should be ok. Usually most schools say on their websites that they expect you to continue to do well after acceptance. If you are dropping one course to fulfill a requirement I don't see how that could be a problem.

It may depend on the program/school/etc, but I've heard that as long as you make C's or better in all required courses, you're good to go. As long as they don't specifically state that you must finish your degree, you don't really have to worry about anything else.

Also: I think that when you get your acceptance email/letter, it's standard for them to say... "Congrats, you're conditionally excepted... as long as you do this."

I have friends who got into VCU pharmacy, and I assume it could be the same for the Dental School, but they require i think 30 hrs of classes outside of Science courses.

I don't know anyone whos come across this exact situation. But at U of Michigan, they require a lot more classes than most schools. One of their requirements is psychology (just your typical 100 level intro). I still haven't taken it yet, they told me that its not going to be a big deal, since I can still take it in the winter of 2011 before matriculation (July 2011).

they said if we decide to accept you, it will be stipulated on your offer that you complete psychology before matriculation in summer of 2011
