The Stony Brook class thread is not getting much action, so I thought I'd post this here. Who is planning to attend? Does anyone know what the general schedule of events will be? Also, are you coming alone or with family/significant other?

I'll be there, but I'm undecided about whether or not to bring someone (it's going to be a loooong drive). Admissions made it sound like most people come alone. It would be nice to know what the day will be like so that we would know if it would be weird to have someone else there or not.

Perhaps I'll give this one more try - - will I be the only one attending? : )

I wish I were attending, but I can't because of my thesis, but I'll definitely be there in June for pre-orientation-- hopefully I'll see you there 🙂. Are you definitely coming to SB?

I'll be there too (coming alone). I'm sure it's fine to bring someone. It sounds like much of the day will be presentations but I assume there will be some amount of "social" time -- lunch or whatever.

Maybe BigDan will tell us what it's like, assuming he went last year.

What I really wish was that school wasn't so far away because I really want to start looking for a laptop but I know I shouldn't look yet b/c as soon as I purchase one something new, faster, and fancier will be out in July or August!! You'll have to keep me posted on what they say about computers on Friday. Or maybe you guys could ask if there are certain specs we have to adhere to, I'd really appreciate it!

Hey guys - I'll be there too, but I'm not taking anyone - is anyone taking the train from NYC? And does anyone else plan on wearing jeans, because it makes me hurt just a little inside to wear business casual on a day off. Hopefully it's more than just the three of us!

Maybe a current Stony Brook student can confirm this, but I've heard that contrary to what the Admissions Office tells you if you ask, it's not really necessary to wear b-cas, i.e. that a decent shirt and jeans is OK.

Hola amigos.

I didn't do the second look, actually. I thought I was headed to Newark at that point in time. THANK GOD SB was good to me. Anyways, I don't know about the dress nor the bringing of others. Here's my own personal opinion, which really means very little, so take it for what it's worth: bringing someone with you is fine, but you're gonna be "the person that brought his/her ..."; or at least that's how it was a the orientation and preorientation. Second, medical school is filled with old white men. Conservative. That being said, I presume you're already in. So do what you want. No one is gonna get "unaccepted". I did preorientation in a roller hockey shirt written in Portuguese, shorts, flip-flops, and my very biggest diamond earrings. But crispy pants and a nice polo NEVER hurt anyone. And you'd be surprised what folks remember about you. Do your own thing.

Regarding the computers, they'll send you something on it. Even if they didn't, you ABSOLUTELY don't need them for the start of school. Get it now if you can afford one, or if you take notes on it, but if you use it to email or just use it for the tests you'll be taking on it, I'd wait. I dropped 1600 on this very computer and then I realized I got a Porsche when all I needed was a Sentra. But my screen is real pretty. Moreover, you can also add it into your loan if you wait, if you're into that.

I'll be there! And I'll get there via the LIRR out of NYC too. Don't know what I'll be wearing yet, but I'm sure jeans would be fine if you want to wear them.
