Okay so wow, I got a call today after work to come interview at Stony Brook this Friday. I am absolutely awestruck because not only did I add the school kind of late (they received my AADSAS application on Sept 29) -- it was the only one that I was 'certain' to be outright rejected by, lol, because my stats are not as exceptional as I felt they needed to be for Stony given that I'm not a state resident, and additionally the oral surgeon I work for told me there was no way I was going to get an interview there. Tomorrow when I see him I get to tell him just how wrong he was 😎

Anyway, for those of you who have interviewed there this cycle, how was your interview? How many people are interviewed each day? Were you really impressed with the school, clinics, etc.? I checked the feedback page but there really isn't much to go on. I'm an out-of-stater, so I'm fighting for one of those few spots.

Hope to see some of you in NY on Halloween!

I interviewed there, and it's a very nice school. Cheap, small class size (about 39), and strong curriculum. However, they only accept 2 out-of-state applicants each year, so it's very competitive for you. Good luck.

That's very funny because I withdrew my application at Stony Brook today and had an interview on Friday.

I wish you the best and I hope you enjoy the school.

lol well I guess I was lucky to scoop up your early date. I guess I would have otherwise been offered a date next week or the week after - I don't think it's like they randomly chose somebody to fill the empty interview spot. Out of curiosity, what made you withdraw your application?

I've been doing a lot of interview traveling this semester and I've missed a lot of class. Coupled with the fact that I've dropped over $600 on travel so far and there are 2 (or 4 possibly) spots for out of state students, I didn't think it was really the best decision for me to go.

I heard from Stony this week also and have an interview friday. Its so weird that they schedule interviews with such short notice, compared to most schools which go weeks or months.

They offer a lot more than 4 out of state spots (6 out of staters in my class). Remember that not everyone accepts the offer. It's possible they accept > 15 out of state people each cycle but I don't know the exact stats.

I'll be around during your lunch hour on Friday in the learning center. Maybe I'll see you then.

Be confident in yourself! I realize that it may be a 'long shot' for me to be one of the few lucky out of staters to make it in, but hey, I made the interview cut, so that means something 😎 ... I can see what you mean about spending a lot of money on a 'longer shot,' though. I have the benefit of only being a few hours driving distance away, so I won't be spending too much on gas and a one-night hotel stay.

See you there on Friday, Elf, and maybe you too, Streetwolf. I have heard nothing but good things about the school and am very excited to see it all firsthand.

We have lunch at 1-2 so you'll still be around then. SB is a really good school. If you haven't noticed from the "location" thing under my SDN name, I'm also from NJ. So I'm living proof out of staters get in 😉.

GL and be yourself.

i just found out i have an interview on nov 3rd..anyone else?

The interview was very nice, the school is as AWESOME as I was anticipating. I'll put a review up on the interview feedback page eventually. Quickly I'll add there were 9 total interviewees, all but one of which had found out about their interview the week of (like myself). School is very nice, interview was a bit tough but I think it depended on who you got. Stony Brook is certainly where I'd like to spend the next four years of my life if I'm offered an acceptance. Still have a few more interviews to attend, though, but I think any other school will be hard pressed to beat Stony Brook's impression on me. But I'm not a city person, and I think that has a lot to do with it - if you do like the city life, you probably won't like the area Stony Brook is in. But I 😍suburbia. And very small class sizes.
