hi everyone I need A LOT of help deciding between these two schools. I am extremely lucky to have been accepted to both great schools but I’m really torn. I’m a NY resident so stony is obviously cheaper than Rutgers even after becoming in state after D1 at RSDM.

Clinically, I would say they are both up there and finding patients won’t be much of an issue at both schools (I’m pretty sure that’s the case at rutgers but someone please confirm this for stony). Rutgers is very close to me (40mins drive) while stony is around 2hr without traffic and 3hr with traffic. If I go to rutgers, I will be able to come home whenever I want and I wouldn’t necessarily need a car. But, for stony I would need to get a car to get by.

I’m not sure how I feel about the biomedical program at stony. My main goal is to graduate and go straight into practice (not really looking into academia/going into teaching). As of right now, I’m thinking of specializing in ortho but it can obviously change when I’m in dental school. So, in terms of speciality rates I heard stony is quite good (correct me if I’m wrong again)…but I’m not sure about Rutgers (I know a lot of people graduate from rutgers and go straight into practice so maybe that’s why not a lot of people choose to specialize since it’s not required to do a GPR in NJ).

I need solid and real advice please🙏🏼🙏🏼 and not “go with the cheapest”

Rutgers is 40-50k more expensive than stony for me but I’m okay with that if it means that I will get my money’s worth at rutgers than at stony

Thank you for your help in advance! I would appreciate detailed advice!

it's not urgent, you have 4 weeks to make a deposit
but anyways, the answer is "cheapest"...

in al seriousness, rutgers clinical requirements are very high, and that combined with the cost difference would be the deal breaker
biomedical curriculum will help with specializing and you will have more time to form relationships in specialty departments at stony too...

I went to Rutgers. You should go to Stony Brook amigo. You’re blessed to have gotten in. Take the deal!
