What if Trump gets re-elected and the Republicans control both houses, do you think they would at least grandfather you in?
Just to avoid this getting massively tied up in federal court, they’d probably grandfather in existing borrowers. There’s established precedent and no risk of a judge ruling that an entitlement exists.

Okay I read the Trump budget proposal, it’s pretty much the same as last year:
1) One IDR plan that is 12.5% of discretionary income
2) Undergraduate loan forgiveness after 15 years (180 payments)
3) Graduate loan forgiveness after 30 years (360 payments)
4) Effective all loans disbursed on or after July 1, 2020.

So if we got loans before 7/1/2020, then we still good with 25 year forgiveness? nice.
Historically, any changes to student loans leave previous loans untouched, unless it’s a more generous benefit and a borrower affirmatively opts in.
