Hi guys, I am wondering if it is okay to use laundry detergent instead of bleach to store the teeth for dental school.

Yes that is true, but I think they will provide the correct solution when we get to school, or at least make it available. Bleach should be fine until then. I think the proper dilution is 10:1 water to bleach if anyone was wondering.

I agree! I was told that it's a 10:1 dilution too.

1:1 ratio Listerine and water. Can't go wrong with it. Bleach can and will make the teeth too brittle. You want to maintain the integrity of enamel as much as you can.

I'm with KittySquared, only I used full strength Listerine to collect and store teeth. Make sure to use the plain yellow Listerine though, anything with green or blue dye will stain the teeth. Some people have their teeth stored in a bleach solution and it made them too brittle for some of our projects.

Storing teeth? For dental school? Where do get the teeth from? Do just pull it out of some strangers mouth? Why do you even need to collect teeth?

Ok. I take it this is something accepted pre-dents are suppose to do. I'm applying this cycle so that's probably why I didn't know about this

Your school will notify you if you need to collect teeth or not, so no need to start stocking up.
