Strategies for Informing the Public

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Staggering. At some point I think it will make sense to directly contact the upper levels at the ASA in an enthusiastic, POSITIVE, yet clear way in order to comunicate that a public presence of some kind is an expectation ASA members have of their representitive org. (assuming that this is the concensus)

At least it would be helpful to hear their reasons for why public interaction at this stage is not an appropriate manuver. Perhaps UNsupervision does not yet affect a critical portion of ASA members -- but a look into the future should make a lot of people nervous and want to be involved with preparation (As UT undersores).

sorry..undersCores ..undersores is something very different🙂

Hey guys/gals,

I just checked my email and got the PMs and have now reread the thread. I've been on vacation. I agree with taking the high road also. This is how we stay patient advocates. However, we owe the public an explanation of what is available for anesthesia care in this country and that they can decide. It is just like informed consent. You present options to a patient. You explain your bias and recommendation.

But ultimately the patient should decide. I'm not to used to using the PM feature, but will try to get better. I do not think this should be out in the open. We can communicate through PM. I have not joined the private forum, but may try to when I get home and get my ASA number.

I think the strategy must be multi-modal, multi-institutional and be backed by the ASA. If we get a nice working outline/plan along with multi-institutional results we will garner more respect from the organization. This is not only educating the public, but all physicians as well about the value we bring, and the state of medicine in this country.
