For those of you who have streaming video lectures.. what is the utility called that lets you play video at 2X speed in real player? Is it free?

Thanks! 🙂

It's called Enounce (www.enounce.com). There is a 7 day free trial, but after that it's around $30. But I think they allow you to share the software with one other person for free.

Why would you want to turn your lectures into Alvin and the Chipmunks? 😉

Are these lectures part of medical school or some external course ?

thats the beauty of it. supposedly (i haven't tried it yet) you can speed up the lecture without the voices becoming high pitched.

So that you can spend 2 hours in lecture instead of 4.

The add-in for Realplayer is called 2xAV, and I think it's a 30-day free trial. You can set the play back to any value between .5 and 2.0, I think. You can get it from freedownloads.com 🙂

I use 2xAV for real player and windows media player all the time. It has a 7 day trial, but you can use it after the 7 day trial ends for as long as you want if you keep real player open (don't close it). If you don't want to leave real player open you will have to uninstall and install 2xAV plugin on a daily basis if you don't want to buy it. I got it for free from www.downloads.com.

I don't use it that often, and yes, $30 is a rip off IMHO. 😉

It's still a great little tool to use. Some of our professors talk sooo slowly, and even up to 2.5x it's a lifesaver. As someone mentioned, part of the beauty of this program is that despite how fast you make it, it keeps all the voices at the same intonation. So there's no chipmunk affect.

yup, 2xAV is awesome. The latest versions let you go from 0.4x to 2.5x. And yes, I've watched a few lectures at 2.5x.

watching radiology lecture at 1.5x right now. 😎 👍

This thing is amazing! Does it require a faster connection to play at faster speeds. The more I speed up the video the more it stops to "communicate". Can anyone comment on this.

yes you need a faster connection...if you are using real media player you can pull up the statistics under tools to see your transfer rate........
