Hello!

I am writing because I am currently stalking my email/mailbox for grad school replies. The waiting game is not only stressful but, downright discouraging.

I was recently accepted in the DrOT program at USP but, have not heard from any other schools. I applied to: NYIT, NYU, PHILLYU,JEFFERSON, UPITT AND TOWSON.

I was wondering if anyone else has heard from these schools and if I had even the slightest chance of being accepted??

States:
Cumulative GPA: 3.75
PreReq GPA- 4.0
OT Experience- 120+ Hours (Pediatrics, Hand Therapy, Acute Care, Orthopedics, Brain/Spinal Cord Injury, Outpatient Rehab)

Other meaningful items:
Disaster Relief Volunteer in Birmingham, AL
Big Brothers Big Sisters

My GRE scores are my downfall, I feel. 500M 500V 4.5W

Thanks for the help.

I think your stats, even your GRE scores, give you a great chance to get into most of those schools, if not all. Also, you said you were already accepted into a program. I have been accepted to University of Pittsburgh, and I was told by NYIT that they'd tell applicants in March. I have no idea on the other schools. Best of luck.

Your Stats are really quite good. Don't worry. I went around to look at the schools in spring of 2011. Although nice people, I found most were not 100% on the ball for quickly reading the applications, noticing if you sent in supplemental information and bothering to read it. Basically not that great at dealing with the application process in general from their end.

These are OTs who are teaching while deciding who to admit.

They don't have the benefit of an application department to handle all of the admin work such as is the case when applying to undergrad. They are slow and leave us in agony waiting but it is just the way some schools are.

Keep thinking positive. Your stats really are excellend

Your stats are great I wouldn't worry! I still haven't heard back from several schools so I think it's pretty common. Good luck!

I applied to 5 schools and only heard back from USP also, so relax. One of my schools said they wouldn't start sending out letters till April! Very frustrating I know! As far as PhilaU, I think they will be sending out wait list letters soon from what Anita told me... Also when did you apply? Applying late in the game decreases your chances and it has nothing to do with your stats because they are awesome. My stats are very close to yours.

My materials and everything were verified at the beginning of December and my GRE scores were recieved lonngggg before that. I was told by a few admissions offices that they don't even start looking at applications until the deadline has passed. Which makes me hopeful.

I know how you feel! I've been doing the same thing...checking email constantly, running down to check my snail mailbox every morning. Trying not to worry, but that little "what if? what if?!?!? ahhhhh!!!" thought keeps creeping in.

It makes it even harder when you read about other folks that are getting their acceptances and you haven't heard anything or especially when you read about the applicants that look really good getting rejected.

I've found that this forum is full of really supportive, awesome, encouraging people that are really good at telling me to take a deep breath and try to relax. It's fantastic to have a little Internet support family. It sure is hard when your future is on the line though!

You got into one school so far and that's great! Your stats are impressive! Take a deep breath (and an antacid) and be confident in and proud of your awesome stats!

Great username, btw 🙂

You could call each school and ask when they will be reviewing applications and if they require any supplemental information form you. Could possibly look good if you call in person maybe? haha thats a stretch but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt.

I applied to NYU too. I heard you won't hear back till end of march or beginning of April. Has anybody applied to any schools in New Jersey?

Yes, Seton Hall will not hear from them until April.
Kean has a new requirement, so I did not bother applying with them.

I applied to Seton hall and Kean. I figured I can take the new requirement at Kean over the summer if i get in. Do you know if Seton Hall does interviews?

Hey MS OT,

I pm-ed you, first time I am using it, so I think I sent the same message 4 times to you! LOL sorry..

Haha I know how you feel! I checked my snail mail 4 times on the 20th only to figure out it was presidents day so the mail wasn't running lol

This application process has been really stressful and a bit embarrassing. I was rejected from KU, Rockhurst, and SLU. I'm still waiting to hear back from WashU and Creighton.
I'm trying to stay positive, but it's not looking too good. What other careers would you consider if OT didn't work out for you?

P.S. are my stats bad enough that I shouldn't reapply next year?

GPA cum: 3.16
GPA WASHU prereqs: 3.64
GRE: 69% V 67% Q 48% A
Volunteer hours:
110 children's hospital playroom
172 psychology practicum with child with autism
70 working at a youth crisis hotline
24 observation hours at three locations

You have good stats, don't worry! I have lower stats than you and was offered an interview to Creighton last year. It was sometime in early March I want to say I received that invite and about 2 weeks after I fully submitted my application. I turned it down but their department was incredibly kind and helpful with providing information.

Do you only have 24 hours shadowing in OT? If so I'd suggest increasing that. number if possible. Although, many schools have an minimum amount of hours they certainly seem to lean towards accepting candidates that go beyond the min. hours of observing.
Hang in there, its worth it!

you got rejected form KU? kean university??? I didnt even realize they actually started to review this fast. Im currently a student there and applied there. havent heard a thing yet.
