Hello

First of all thanks for taking time to read my post...

I am an international student going to StonyBrook for Neuroscience bachelors. I was recently diagnosed with Chronic depression, ADHD and partial aphasia. As of now my GPA is 2.0 but I am expecting it to get better. I am taking all summer off just giving myself some time to de-stress and flush my mental mind with more positive and strategic approach. I need someone to brief the process for applying to grad school in neuroscience. I am very passionate about studying neuroscience and DONT WANT TO GIVE UP!

Thanks

Grad school requires a certain degree of emotional stability/health, as well as an the ability to regulate attention and be detail oriented, so I would make sure your are receiving treatment and that that treatment is as effective as possible before you apply.

I am taking professional help since year now . I am more stable and I feel more confident that I can achieve What I want to. I am on medication and it is helping me a lot. Thats the reason I am able to think about advancing my career.
Thanks

Norkick13, what year are you in undergrad? You'll definitely need to improve that GPA (most programs have a 3.5 cut-off), you'll need to take GREs & do well, you'll need to establish several strong relationships with professors/professionals in the field who can provide letters of reference, and I always recommend volunteering in some form mental health or research program. If you find that you cannot raise your GPA, consider a master's degree or a post-baccalaureate certificate that doctoral programs can sometimes use to determine that you have what it takes to make it through graduate school in a timely manner (provided all other parts of your application are stellar).

Also, you're very honest in your posting about your difficulties as an undergrad, but you will need to 'filter' that information going forward because programs (in neuroscience, clinical psychology and like) are not looking for applicants who have a personal insider's view of mental health issues but rather are exceptional in certain areas & will contribute to the field in a meaningful way.

Also, you'll need to narrow in on what particular field of neuroscience you want to go for: Clinical neuropsychology (for which this forum is appropriate) or medical school-related neuroscience (like neurology, neurosurgery, etc.) as I see you are pre-med.

And never give-up, I like to think we have our entire lives to do what we want, we only have to put our minds to it. Good luck! :luck:

*Edit* Put in some time searching older threads on SDN for more information & insight about applying to specific programs...almost everything has been discussed here over the years, and you may find some of the information quite useful at your present stage.
