Honestly guys after reading different versions of conduct violation, thread titled, "Student Conduct Violation- Intimidation", Student Conduct about a gf creeping on her bf. I've seriously been creeped out and almost feel like everyone can become president of America, another version of mother Teresa and a wonderful Physician. Hell in the gf story she only harassed her boyfriend for the sake of love which is weird but not creepy right? In the intimidation thread the other guy ran around threatening to stab his professor for an A in Calculus for all we know and played it off like a bribery charge even though it specifically said intimidation- Jesus Christ lol. I swear to God it absolutely amazes me reading all these stories every single day and some of the wild responses. Pretty soon we will definitely have new threads talking about how a pre-med tried to rape a campus police officer and is applying to medical school. Everyone is going to write well just state it the application and show them that you have matured beyond raping people. Some might even say oh this raping a police officer is just silly and the OP to the rape thread might even think that raping police officers is a norm. I could have never thought Studentdoc would get this disturbing. Good luck to everyone applying to medical school even if you have a "record".

EDIT:- This is not to flame anyone but simply amazement at the numerous and different types of violations.

The phrase "so open-minded your brain falls out" comes to mind regarding some of those responses you mention above.....

Things of such nature as harassment and intimidation don't show a misjudgment alone, stating that such things were misjudgments is simply understating the major problem . I have never felt like ever stalking anyone even if it was my fiancee of 3 years who dumped me while I was touring in Iraq. I have never felt like intimidating someone even if it was the guy that pulled a gun out on me at a gas station. There are certain things that really show a weakness in character and there's not much you can "mature" from it that's my opinion. Many people might jump around saying that's not true people make mistakes and they mature but in the end of the day would you let your child or parent be seen by a Physician that had a record of harassment or intimidation be it even a single incident? I sure as hell WOULD NOT there's tons of other doctors I could visit.

I had a feeling someone was going to make a thread with this title making fun of the other Student Conduct Violation threads. 😛

Boys will be boys.

Hmmm... perhaps an "Official Student Conduct Violations Thread" is the need of the hour....

I fail to see the humor in this one.

This thread is funny because someone in one of the other threads said it would be funny if someone made this thread.

I don't think it's intended to be funny. The OP clearly seemed to show his concern on a serious note.

A few points, OP.

1- This is the reason they have admissions committees. You can share your (meaningless) opinion with whomever but it would be ridiculous to discourage potential applicants from trying based on your perceived (and inherently limited) character judgments.

2- Of all the cases I've seen on SDN, the point of the threads is never to ask 'do you think my IA/conviction was justified?' Instead, they are almost invariably phrased 'given that I messed up X years ago, what can I do to redeem myself'. Notice that they admit to their mistakes already, they don't need you to pounce on them with your self-righteous 'coulda shoulda woulda' crap.

3- The purpose of SDN is to support one another with positive criticism, not publicly attack others for asking honest questions (regardless of whether or not you think there is an obvious answer).

imagining the interview

"it was just rape.... "

People are disturbing. Everyone has skeletons in their closets. The more normal and well-adjusted someone seems to be, the bigger and darker the closet.

Or maybe I'm just too cynical...

You'll realize just how true this is going through the admissions process.

Seriously? You've never had one dark or inappropriate impulse? I call bull****. Humans are apes and our natural tendency is to lie, steal, cheat and manipulate to get what we want, so long as the benefits outweigh the possibility and severity of punishment.

Ok you've got to be kidding me. Girls come dime a dozen and I didn't lose my virginity at the age of 30. So, I think it's safe to say I don't run around stalking or attempting to have inappropriate impulses against women. As far as intimidating lol wtf is this 2nd grade where you intimidate the little kids. NO I do not run around intimating people, I've lived a very straight forward life the only violations I have ever made were driving tickets. I have no idea what upbringing you come from but if you have tendencies to "steal, cheat and manipulate" I would suggest you speak to a therapist. Later

I don't usually jump into these kind of conversations, but I agree with you! I am actually hoping all of these Conduct Violation threads are jokes because their actions show signs of poor judgement and possible personality disorders- Not what I want in a physician!

Also, thank you for your military service.

I wasn't speaking specifically about rape, more about the "lie, cheat, steal and manipulate" part. And no, I don't run around doing these things, but I'm not gonna get on my high horse and pretend like I'm not a product of millions of years of evolution. I don't do these things because I understand (both on a conscience and sub conscience level) that the risk associated with them in terms of my standing in society is unacceptably high in comparison to the expected benefits. The biggest character flaw I see with the "intimidation" guy is inability to evaluate that risk.

EDIT: Okay, to clafiry: I agree that DOING these things is unacceptable, I just don't agree to playing thought police and saying that everyone who ever entertained the idea of doing something naughty has a personality disorder.

I would hope that most people choose to not commit immoral acts simply because they consider it to be wrong, not because the risk outweighs the benefit (ie. self-interest). :scared: Maybe that's just me being naive.

You would hope that, but it's not human nature.

It seems clear you are singling out people and trying to get lots of views/comments by making such a suggestive title. So what do you think that says about your character?

Humans are actually not 'apes'. This has been well documented in
evolutionary biology. Look it up. Ahh, I love browsing SDN when I should
be studying for Step 3😎

What are they then? I'm being totally serious, because even though I think it's a mute and arbitrary classification anyway and does nothing to change my basic point, I'm curious as to what sources you are referencing in evolutionary biology that disprove that humans are apes (is that even disprovable? To say that they aren't would require a reclassification of what an ape is.)

So ape is a paraphyletic taxon? Also I didn't know evolutionary biology is an entity.
I realized this when I went to medical school. These people are crazy.
+1. People need to realize the main selection factor for medical school admission is academic performance, not anything else.

I guess this is where you and I differ. I do not weigh my actions on a scale of benefits vs. repercussion. I think if I based my life on such principles then life would be living hell. I'm not the only man that lives based on core moral beliefs. I have met many men that lived their lives and even died with a code of honor where they served and protect others no matter what. They strived to help others and strengthen their country. These many men did not evaluate their benefits on a scale and try to take adavtange when they thought the risks were low. If you have never met people of such nature I am simply sorry for you. I am by no means glorifying myself or anyone but simply telling you that I have met people that I truly believe went past the behavior of an evolving "ape" calculating risks.

Simply says that I don't stalk, intimidate or rape people. Have a great day now.

I'm not going to get into a philosophical debate about why I think morality is arbitrary and why you actually DO weigh your actions at a subconscience level. I never said everyone tries to take advantage when risks are low, the original argument had to do with thoughts and impulses, and I stand by what I said: it's inappropriate to commit aforementioned deeds, but having impulses or thoughts of doing them does not automatically mean you have a personality disorder, it means your human.

I shall provide a summary of that.

Actions speak louder than words
