Student Debt Forgiveness for Frontline Health Care Workers Act

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
the govt is giving out money to families earning up to 150K. It's just fair for healthcare workers to get some benefits too. the interest rate on my loans is too high. So, even reducing the interest rate will provide some relief.

Most physicians make more than $150k. Physicians can afford their loans and made a promise to pay them back. Why should I and other tax payers pay for your loans?

No. That's not a good use of more borrowed money.

the issue is people earning up to 150K can also afford their loans. Either the money is used for those who desperately need it (salary <50K per year), or everyone should get some type of break. What upsets me is a friend who drives a convertible and laughs at my 10years old nissan altima. He is getting support and living large with his family. His family makes about 150K. People earning above 50K should not be getting this "borrowed money".

You seem to forget the very appropriate option of “govt stops trying to hand anyone money”

UBI is coming. COVID is the way they’re normalizing its roll-out. Stimulus checks will be the new norm. They’ll probably assign a social credit score and a citizen must have a high enough score to be eligible for UBI.

Like that netflix show?

Anyone who thinks this bill even has the slightest chance of getting passed knows nothing about the legislative process in our country... Let alone the economic consequences something like this would have.

Black mirror had an episode about a social score

UBI is coming fast.
Essentially all who post on SDN will be considered “essential workers” though. There’s going to a permanent underclass that just sits at home like slugs and demands services and free handouts. I guess that’s better than violence??

Lots of things that are happening in modern socialist/socialist-ish countries won't happen in the US at this time.

Lol, economic consequence. The fed's corporate bond buying program alone will cost $750,000,000,000. Buying debt from cash rich companies such as....Toyota, VW, daimler, at&t, apple, Verizon, BMW. Some aren't US companies, and those are all within the top 10 of purchases! They have tons of cash on hand! You right though, our governing body will never support some loan forgiveness to individuals rather than corporations, unless you consider corporations to be individuals, which is actually valid under our laws. Money printer goes brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

I think we're in extremely unique times right now in the sense that Trump and his team are desperate to keep the market up in hopes it will help him get re-elected. Them artificially pumping everything will put us in economic hell for the foreseeable future, no doubt. But that aside, I don't see the feds doing other economically detrimental things wily nilly if there is no gain in it for them.
