Student Groups - Volunteer???

I lost the thread now, but I think I read where somebody said that involvement in student groups goes under the "volunteer" section of your ERAS experiences. Is this true? So, I should put AMA as a volunteer experience? I just want to be sure before my significant involvement in student groups "pads" my CV.

I wouldn't put that in the volunteering section. Membership in a professional group should go under a heading such as "professional organization" or "professional affiliations" - something like that. volunteering is doing service-type work without monetary compensation.

Leadership positions in these organizations would go under volunteer experiences

Straight from the application website "include all unpaid extra-curricular activities and committees you have served on as volunteer experiences"
