If no sex preference is listed, is it inappropriate to ask an opposite-sex student to host you?

Yeah, I think it might raise some eyebrows. You hoping to get lucky the night before?

i'm just running out of potential hosts.
i only ask because one of my fellow interviewees a couple weeks ago mentioned having stayed with 2 female students for one of his previous interviews.

Oh, so you mean say that you'll take a male or female host and not that you want to request a female host. I don't see a problem with that. I think that the hosting program will give you a guy or girl depending on what's available, but you'll probably get a guy before a girl though.

I have a friend who hooked up with her student interviewer, and then attended there later. I wonder what the student interviewer's eval was like 😉

well, case simply provides you with a list of willing student hosts. none of the women i've written, however, seems to be available to host me . . .

so it'd be a matter of awkwardly writing a dude and asking to sleep on his couch . . . hmmph. hotel sounds like a better alternative, i suppose.

So you are only writing women for student hosting?

It is like you expect that generally interviewees spend the night with opposite sex hosts, and any other way would be just wrong. I am pretty sure either way you go (male or female) you'll end up sleeping on the couch  .

Lol I wonder if desperate M1's apply to be student hosts in the hopes that they may be paired with a naive pre-med 😉, I'm sure it has happened

i'm a woman. i *think* that clarifies some things, although i'm not quite sure what you're saying with your first sentence. i'd prefer to stay with a woman, but wouldn't mind having a male host. i'm just don't know whether it's the done thing.

Don't interview evaluations depend on your performance? 😀

no - "good fit" ... for the school. 😀

At any rate, OP, just email anyone on the list you have male or female -- these folks are the ones who presumably indicated they have a couch or bed someone could use. Don't expect the host to spend a great deal of time with you -- folks in med school frequently have serious study schedules. You are getting a place to crash and save money on a hotel, maybe the opportunity to ask a few questions, nothing more. The fact that you haven't gotten responses thus far could be an indication of an upcoming test people are focusing on, etc.

IMO, it doesn't matter. Like others have said, you'll just be getting a couch/futon/spare bed to sleep on. I'm a male and have hosted a female and it's not weird for me or (I think) for the perspective student. I mean, you are going to be a doctor so you should be pretty comfortable around everyone, including people of the other gender. So, just go with whatever gender of host is available.

I assumed you were a weirdo male trying to sleep over with female student hosts lol! My apologies.

Dr. Pardi chiming in on this thread -- who'd a thunk it?😉

great!
thanks for your helpful replies and filthy minds, folks. 👍

"The applicant has a very long standing interest in medicine and doesn't beat around the bush, but rather inserts himself right into the situations that will achieve his goal. This is his standard approach even if will leave him and those around him exhausted yet quite satisfied in the end." :meanie:

Would gender have not been a more appropriate term for the title? I haven't heard the term "sex" used in this context, it's a little odd. Just my rant.

Sex is the more accurate term. One's sex is either male or female. Gender may feel more comfortable to say, but sex is more precise and correct.

either way, the title is "misleading" ... and i'm left unsatisfied.

I hosted a female student last year (a female colleague was supposed to host her, but she got sick and asked me to take over).

It wasn't a big deal. Although, On the morning of the interview, I woke up and put on a towel (thinking she had left already). It turned out that she was just about to leave. She saw me, gave me a little suggestive smirk, and left. I never saw her afterwards, and she didn't attend my school.

No, there is no taboo preventing you from doing this if you're comfortable with it and the host is too. Personally, I would not be comfortable staying with a strange guy (aren't they ALL strange 😛 ), so I never did. Nor do I host guys. But other people do host opposite-sex interviewees, and I've never heard of anyone having a problem because of it.

I wouldn't be suprised if its happened...Its like the stories you hear from other interviewees who get trashed with their student hosts the night before and yet somehow manage to make it to the interview on time.

But then again, i don't know anyone who has gotten a hangover from too much sex.

to the person interviewing at case, if the list has no preference, thats becase the host indicated such. I hosted both genders in my time. No biggie.

Lucky guy!

He is not a lucky guy the girl was playing him. Pisses me off when men let women manipulate them with sex.

The school got the short end of the stick - the student interviewer and the applicant both "got off" easy.

Some of those UCLA med students that I tried to talk to today needed some LOVING... Some of those girls looked old too - 25 to 30+, and I bet they were despeate for some! I still can't believe they tried to take out some of theri sexual frustrations out on me. 👎

You think 25-30 is OLD? Wow, you are soooo missing out dude.

Haha, I've got an attractive female classmate that I assumed was in the 26-27 range, and then she said she was 30. I suddenly felt old for thinking she was cute

i guess it's this strangeness that makes the opposite sex so attractive. the kinkier, the better.

ever heard of Outkast's song "Pink & Blue"? maybe she can teach you something new.

Good thing they accepted him otherwise he would have gotten screwed twice

On a serious note, I stayed with a married student during my interview at Miami-FAU. Both of them were extremely nice people and we spent a lot of time together. The student gave me a private tour of the school the night before and we went out to dinner. Finally, I had a private room instead of a couch. It was a very positive experience. I feel weird staying with someone I don't know but once you get to meet them, it's like they are your friends. Chances are you have a lot in common to begin with, not to mention that they are just as broke as you are so they are very sympathetic.
I think either a male or a female would be fine. It's not like you are going to spend a whole weekend with them.
Good luck

ok, i just wrote many a case dude. fingers crossed that a free futon still remains!

A little stress relief never hurt anybody.

Great martial arts experts (like Helio Gracie), professional assassins, and bullfighters often regard copulation (that is not used for conception) to be detrimental to one's physical energy and to one's senses (bullfighters claim it slows the eye speed reaction).

You might relax well, but then you might not be as quick on the draw with interview questions.

To the OP, stay with opposite sex hosts if you have to, but please, don't let them catch you smelling their underwear drawers. That probably would make for an awkward situation.

again, i'm a woman.
i'm not sure we do that sort of thing . . .

I am going to guess only the interviewer "got off" easy. The applicant has probably done it so much they are numb to it by now.

Anyone remember the Italian soccer team's strategy in the 2002 World Cup? They didn't have sex during the easier rounds to let their testosterone build up, and then they had sex before the later rounds because (their coach claimed) that it released the pent-up aggression or something or another. It got a lot of publicity, and ultimately did not work. They lost. Couldn't find anything on Google about it though.

Yeah there's alot of correlation, especially in the Eastern Asian medicine studies, between physical and spiritual energy and sex, namely that if you have the latter you lose the former.

They've got some theory about the center of energy (dan tien) that is generally somewhere around your navel area and about 3 inches in or so (exact location is always a point of dispute), around your kidneys - something about sex and ejaculation and kidneys - not sure, but basically that's apparently why they claim that monks in Asia are martial arts experts and have elite chi powers cuz they never had sex.

Me personally, I'd never be celibate, even if you could gain powers like flying or throwing fireballs, because honestly, women are that good.

They lost because the italian team is gay. Maybe if they played against the greek team they might have won.

the place i stayed for an interview under a student host happened to be at a medical fraternity house (established for at least 50-60 years). It was pretty much a standard fraternity (nice pool in the back with a large slide, hottub)- huge library full of books for all the classes so you dont have to purchase them. They happened to have a luau party the previous night with 300 attendents, woulda been nice to of had gone to it 😉

Where they twins???????

I think "sex with student host?" is a much more appropriate question..
