So I am applying to schools this fall. I graduate in December of 2013 and my loans kick in 6 months after graduating. So June I'm assuming I will have to start making payments. My question is if I get accepted into a OT program in March or something, will I still have to start paying these loans? Will I have to pay them for only 2 months until schools starts? Or will they be deferred since I would be starting school in August?

Has anybody graduated after the fall session and can answer this question through past experience? Does anybody have a link to where I could find this out?

Anything helps, Thanks everyone!

Your students loans will only be deferred once you register for classeses.

I had a similar situation; I took a year off after graduation and applied to OT programs. I was accepted to my program in February and my loans kicked in on April 1st. My program begins in June, but I still have to make loan payments for April, May, and June. It really depends on when your school will approve your deferment forms. My school will not approve them until Orientation. It's frustrating because I'd much rather be saving that money every month to put toward grad school, but that's just the way they do it. Just contact your school's financial aid office and ask them about loan deferment, they may do it differently.
