Hi,

I am currentlly on H4 visa. I want to convert to F1 visa by joining in a MPH program in a local University. I have completed by BDS in India. I would like to know following details:

1. How easy would it be to get the admission into MPH program. Typically how much GPA is required?

2. What is minimum number of credits that I need to take per semister for becoming eligible for Student Visa.(Some universities are saying that I should be a full-time student. I like to know meaning of that in terms of number of credits)

3. How long can I continue the course without losing my student visa?

4. What is the typical cost of completing this program.

I appreciate your help.

Hey Remore,

I ve tried to answer your questions to the best of my knowledge.. I have done BDS from India and have done MHA in the US ..

1. How easy would it be to get the admission into MPH program. Typically how much GPA is required?
It is not at all difficult to get the admission. It depends on your GRE score, TOEFL score and Recos. Generally they do not ask u to get your GPA evaluated from here...so gpa is not a concern

2. What is minimum number of credits that I need to take per semister for becoming eligible for Student Visa.(Some universities are saying that I should be a full-time student. I like to know meaning of that in terms of number of credits)

To maintain your full time student visa status (F1) u have to take minimum 9 credit hours per semester. u can take the summer sem off though
3. How long can I continue the course without losing my student visa?

till u graduate .. u also get an OPT visa for 1 year after graduation which allows u to work in any related field

4. What is the typical cost of completing this program.

depends on the individual program. and also if u have lived in the state for more than a year. cos generally there is a different tuition structure for in-state and out-of state students

hope this helps

regards,
ras

hey one more thing ....

if u manage to get a Research Assitantship (RA) in the department or anywhere else in the school -- your tuition is waived and u get to work for them part - time --- meaning u get paid too 🙂

information you have given is very useful, thank you for your input.
