Hi guys. I go to a small liberal arts school in Baltimore and study abroad is a big thing here. I was wondering if anyone has gone abroad during the fall of their senior year? Would this be suicidal with interviews and such, or are the interview schedules at most schools flexible so that I could attend them when im in the country say on a break or when im back in the spring?

Basically I just want to be sure that I wouldnt get squeezed out of an interview oppurtunity if I would happen to be out of the country.

any input would be greately appreciated ...

quick stats: physics major/4.0 sgpa and cum/havent taken mcat yet

is there a possibility you would consider taking a year off between undergrad and med (since you haven't yet taken the mcat anyways)....i studied abroad fall of senior year but didn't apply until after graduation.....best decision i could have made, plus it gave me some time to relax for the coming med school onslaught....if your applying i think it would be somewhat difficult to do, depending upon when you would be getting back....most schools aren't particularly accomodating with their interview schedules

I agree with gogiants. I studied abroad fall of my senior year and held off applying for a year. That time off can be really, really beneficial, as long as you do something that interests you and is worthwhile. Doesn't have to be medically related or anything like that. But some real world experience is always a good thing.

Like gogiants said, med schools are not accomodating with their interview schedules. I would go abroad, take a year off, then apply. In the end, you'll be in school one or two years later, but with the benefit of having studied abroad and done something different for a year or two--the value of these things can't really be measured. Good luck!

PS When I interviewed every single one of my interviewers asked about my study abroad experience and my work experience after school, and they both led to some interesting discussions, which I think helped me during my interviews.
