I am planning to study abroad this summer and am wondering should I expect dental schools to request my transcript from the abroad institution? My official transcript from my home institution will mention which institution I had the study abroad experience at, but will not provide any information regarding courses taken/transferred back or grades received. I was told that AADSAS will not verify my abroad coursework or factor it into my AADSAS GPA.

After the study abroad experience, my credits will transfer back as long as I receive a C or higher (the grading at the abroad institution will still be A+, A, A-, B+, B, B-, etc.) and will have no effect on my home institution GPA. The institution I plan to study abroad at is in China, and its home students are known to set very difficult curves in classes. I have known of past participants who barely passed their classes as they spent a substantial amount of time exploring the country, but they were okay as long as their credits transferred back (they were not pre-health). The classes I plan to take are engineering classes, so they will not be easy. I will definitely not aim to get just C's, but I was told that if I stress myself out too much academically, it ruins the study abroad experience. So, despite the courses not affecting my home institution or AADSAS GPA, would I still need to be as worried about grades?

I was told by AADSAS (in writing) that AADSAS itself will not require documentation, and that if anything, it will be up to individual dental schools to decide whether or not they would ask for it. Therefore, this implies that AADSAS will not be verifying the foreign coursework and will not be factoring those grades into my AADSAS GPA. How likely is it that individual dental schools would ask for me to send in the actual transcript?

If the foreign institution's grades show up on your official university transcript, you will not have to give them another transcript.
I just went through this. Good luck

The thing is in my case, they don't. My home institution's official transcript will merely note that I had the experience. It will provide no information regarding coursework and grades while at the foreign institution.

If anything, my unofficial transcript will list which courses transfer back. The credits from the foreign institution transfer back to my home institution, but not the grades.

And of course I'm not asking this question to see if I can get away with just getting C's in my study abroad courses. I will still do my best academically, but am hoping that I won't have to let the stress of grades take away from the experience I should get from studying abroad.

Yeah you might wanna call to just ask cause the last thing you want is to wait like 2-3 more weeks for the foreign transcripts to come in

if the classes are on your school transcript then they dont require a second transcript from the abroad university. I did my physics abroad and the classes were all on my transcript from my school and I only needed to send one transcript to AADSAS
