How do you prefer to study?

Had a great group of about 10 that I used to study with last semester, got lots of A's and it was fun.

This semester the group disbanded, so I study alone. Just got a 103% on my first therapeutics test. I think I'm going to stick to studying alone.

Studying in groups leads to chit chatting, staying up late and having a good time.
Studying alone is lonesome but effective.
I personally do neither.

study group is just a benevolent term for hanging out, granted i see some effective study groups here and there (this tends to be the exception, not the norm).

in either case, i study alone and usually like to touch base a few hours before the exam and toss ideas back and forth/quiz each other. That way, I know whether I'm in good shape or what I need to shore up in the final hour or two before the test.

Heh. I think you got it right.
But seriously, I think a combo of the two is the best option. Study alone at first to get a base understanding of the material and then meet up with friends to review and discuss. Also, I find that the support that you get from your friends in group study comes in handy after you've already been studying for a while and you're getting burnt out.

I'm not in pharmacy school so I didn't vote.

I can't study with other people, it is too hard for me to focus. When I'm alone I can turn on some music and direct all my attention to my note cards.

Which is what I'm about to do right now. A&P lecture test tomorrow :xf:

IMO, it's too late to study for that test. Personally, if I have a test on Friday, the last day I'm studying for it is Wednesday. Thursday, I'll either be relaxing or studying for another class.

I studied yesterday and have been studying for the past 6 hours with breaks. I'll study for a bit, play on internet for a little bit, then go back. 🙂

If I had just started studying right now I'd be screwed for sure. Waaay too much stuff to memorize.

Haha, I don't have that luxury sometimes (and I'm just a serial procrastinator). If there's a test wednesday and thursday, i'll study for both (weighted to thursday's test) to sunday, cram monday/tuesday for the wednesday test and cram wednesday night for the thursday test.

I think I would have a really, really hard time in pharmacy school if I didn't study in groups. The professors go too fast for me to catch every word they say, and it's nice to be able to get clarification from a friend when I miss a couple important words. Plus, sometimes they have helpful mnemonics, and it helps me remember things when I say them outloud to someone, teach someone something, or have them teach me in a new way. I try to meet with one of my friends every single week to catch up on things, which is great because it makes me accountable - I always feel like I'll be letting down my study buddy if I don't have the objectives done when I said I would.

That said, I need to have alone study time too, or I won't get everything in my head and won't be able to take a test alone. And for calculations, I'd much much rather work alone than in a group, because I often don't have the same method as professors/the other students and I'd rather just do it myself. I usually like to spend the week before the test doing a combination of studying completely alone, studying alone but near a friend so we can ask each other questions if needed, and studying in a pair/a group. Last semester I did a lot of group studying, this semester it's usually me and one other person.
