hi guys,
i have the organic final after two weeks Which will cover the entire Organic Chemistry(I and II). I am thinking to buy the study guide/ manual from the ACS. DO you think it helps if you study that and take the exam. Also, i am having hard time finding/ordering that study guide/manual from ACS. Can anyone plaese tell me how to order or buy that study guide.(Preparing you for ACS in Organic chemistry).
Thanks in advance for your reply and help 👍 .

Yes, I thought the study guide was helpful in preparing me for that exam. My professors for both ochem classes did not test me on the same material that ACS covered on the final exam. The study guide really narrowed down the topics I needed to study. I bought the study guide through the chemistry club at my university for $20. Maybe you can ask your teacher where you can purchase the study guide or borrow it from someone who had used it previously. I'm not sure how you can go about ordering it on your own. Good luck with studying! 🙂

I used the ACS guide for the gen chem exam and it helped quite a bit - so I plan to use it for o-chem. I'm glad to hear that it was helpful.

The study guide is available at my school's bookstore - I think I found it in the test preparation section. You might check there first. I also think the chemistry department at my school is selling it. And you can order from ACS (if all else fails at): http://www3.uwm.edu/dept/chemexams/guides/index.cfm

Thank you very much guys for your help. I will order the study guide tommorow and let you know how the exam goes.

Take note of the ACS guide's reactions that may not seem familiar. They'll probably be on the exam in one form or another. My orgo class learned different sets of reagents for a few reactions and we were clueless on some of the exam questions.

I also need this guide because my teacher is giving us the acs exam for our final. I can't find the book anywhere and the link from acs is not working. 😡

I thought it helped also. I read it cover to cover and I remember recognizing some of the same exact questions from the SG on the test. I bought mine from a friend, but my school had one for the public to check out, so you might check that out. Also, I gave the ISBN to a friend and she was able to take it to the book store and they were able to order her one, that way she didnt have to pay shipping from the ACS website. :luck: good luck

It looks like ACS hasn't really jumped into the 21st century. Here's a link to the PDF order form: http://www3.uwm.edu/dept/chemexams/order/SG_2006_form.pdf

It looks like the require that you fill out their order form and fax or mail it too them. Yes, they take checks it looks like.

Good luck,
Troy

I used it to study for my cumulative Orgo final. I ended up with an A in each class. I highly recommend it. I did this much more in advance than what you have right now, but since the cost per book is outrageous due to shipping, I got students in all orgo classes to sign up if they wanted a book and then I ordered 25-30 of the books. It kept the shipping costs down for everyone and the 50 cents or so I tacked on over the final cost for everyone paid for my book completely.

I don't have a number for them anymore, and I haven't read the rest of the posts on here to see if someone else gave it to you, but they are out of University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee.

Good Luck on your final. This book is really straight forward with a lot of problems that touch on everything you need to know, it is super helpful.

The biggest benefit of the ACS guide is that you see how they ask the questions, which was completely different then how my instructor asked them. The one advantage is that it's all multiple choice, so you have a ~1/5 chance of getting it right. 😀

can somebody pls PM me the ISBN number for the ACS Org. Study Guide. Thank you very much.

Yea...everyone is right. ACS study guide was the only thing that i used to study for the exam. I found it to be very helpul. It would be a great way to study and do well on the exam.
