Hi! We’re a group of OMS interns at JPS Hospital. We want to be active on SDN and participate in discussions, but we are so busy being in and out of the OR. So we made a community account that we will all post with from time to time. Feel free to ask us questions or send us messages. We’ll try to respond when we can!

DB says – Let’s talk about our advice on this test: pay for the test in March so you can take it again — EARLY — if you don’t do well the first time. Anyone else have suggestions?

When do you recommend taking the exam? How many times do you recommend taking the exam and what score should you aim for?

- Is score 70 still be the magic number?

- How bad is it if I apply with score 65 for 4-years program?

- I register for the next exam (Feb 17th) and also plan to take another one on August 18th before apply. My concern is the timeframe of getting score from August 18th exam and submitting application to programs (some programs will have application deadline on September 1st). Do you think that would be a problem?

Thank you.

I am also curious about the August 18th exam date if we want to take it again at that time? Is that going to be too late?

No. Most, if not all, programs give fair consideration to any applications before their deadlines. The CBSE results return within 1 week and can be uploaded electronically into PASS, so there is plenty of time.

I have a first pass in UWorld of 50%. Should I try and do a second pass before Feb. or purchase the released self-assessments? or BOTH?! -Thanks

Definitely hit u world more. The self assessments are decent, but they're better used for giving you an idea of where you stand in terms of test performance rather than a learning tool.

my first time on NBME now feb. may I ask which actual form of the NBME in the self assesments is representative of the actual test?
I am a foreign trained dentist, two years out of school.
Also First aid for USMLE Step 1, Kaplan USMLE Qbook Step 1 except anatomy and physiology parts, notes derived from it and Pathoma videos are enough for scoring?
I only managed USMLE step 1 and the qbook as stated with notes and have a really good grasp, knowledge and actual visual of the book and its schemes, pharmacology weaker link.
thank you in advance.
