Hey fellow DOctors! Hope all is well.

So, tell me what you think. Everyones debating what to do before medical school starts. I'll be at MSUCOM this fall.

How bout that study this BS, or brush up on that material.

What do you think? Would it be benifical to student before hand?

*bone*

Just relax and enjoy as much as you can , I think that is the best way you can prepare yourself for medical school.

I agree. There's no way that you can get a really good jump on the material. My suggestion is to take time out for yourself, because starting in August, relaxation or fun time is really limited. Good luck with everything!😎

Sit back and relax.

Enjoy the last days of your life not being a Med Student. You will thank me for this advice when you get to school in the fall.

Good luck,
Chisel

Relax, do fun things and enjoy the next few months!

ZashJMJ,

I hope no one gets on my case for saying this, but I don't think it could hurt. I'm going to DMU this fall, and I'm already reviewing my Physiology. I just want to remember the things that I've studied. Also, when I'm done with Phys, I'll hit my Biochem. I'm also taking a refresher course of Anatomy this April.

I'm not trying to be a fanatic, but I feel that the more familiar you are with the material, it can only help you. I do believe the other guys that say that you should sit back and relax, but if you have some time to kill like me, why not put in an hour or two everyday to brush up on what you've learned.

I don't know that's just how I feel because I actually like studying.

ZashJMJ,
I think that before med school starts you need to be introduced to my three freinds: Jim, Jack, and Jose! I feel that in the next five months or so, you need to become very good friend with them. Once med. school starts you will have plenty of things to study, but not as much time to spend with your "friends!" Thus, go to the nearest liquior store/bar and order up one of my friends.
Also, read the book House of God, it's a must before going to med. school.

Study before starting medical school?? That's crazy talk...

Relax, have fun, drink, dance, go to a movie, watch tv, listen to music, walk your dog, go shopping, make a telephone call, go out to eat.... (the options are endless, aren't they)

BUT, DO NOT and I repeat, DO NOT cram material that will only amount to about a week of medical school into your brain over the summer. You will spend more of your life studying than you ever dreamed (unless you're a genius with a photographic memory...and if so, then I need an additional study partner). Life is about to change (I'm a first year, so I still think it's a change for the better) and all that was exciting about your summer will be something you dream about when you're sleeping in the library with your face in Netter's atlas.

Trust me...love, live, learn...in that order...

There's nothing wrong with reviewing the material before you start medical school. I think you'll find however, that the detail in med school is nothing like what you saw in undergrad. Every person I talked to that had had anatomy in undergrad said the same thing: it hardly made much of a difference except that the language was more familiar.

If you're going to study anything before hand, I would suggest concentrating on anatomy and histology (assuming that you will have those in the first semester like I did), especially getting to know what the cells look like under a microscope. I had never even heard of histology before I came here and the lab gave me fits.

I think the only real danger you risk with studying before school starts is that the amount of time you will spend reading textbooks after school starts is enormous. The more relaxed you are at the beginning, the less chance you'll burn out at the end. I always believe its better to relax and get sleep while you can. Come August those days are looooooong gone. 😀

I would very much recommend that you do a lot of reading before you start medical school. I personally read "Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine" twice before I started school. I know that I tend to be a slacker, however, I would recommend that you do atleast this much if not more. Also, I have heard that it is helpful to find yourself a cadaver before you start medical school, and practice your dissection techniques. It makes anatomy lab a lot easier. just some advice that I hope helps.
