For those of you who have recently taken the exam or teach others to take it, I could use your advice:

I'm studying out of Reference Guide For The Pharmacy Technician Exam-Revised Edition by Manan Shroff, R.Ph.

There are about 40 drug classes he goes over and I would like to know if I can narrow them down, or at least narrow down the amount of drugs he goes over (brand/generic names, uses, dosage forms, & adverse effects ) that I need to know up and down....

1. Inotropic agents 2. Antiarrhythmic agents 3. Beta Blockers 4. Centrally Acting Antihypertensive agents 5. CA-channel Blockers
6. ACE Inhibitors 7. Vasodilators 8. Antiplatelet agents
9. Coronary Vasodilators 10. Thrombolytic agents 11. Diuretics
12. Specific Alpha-1 Blockers 13. Antihyperlipidemic agents
14. Tranquilizers 15. Antiepileptics 16. Antidepressants 17. Anti Parkinson's 18. ADD 19. Anti Neuroleptics 20. Antibiotics 21. Anti AIDS 22. Acne products 23. Peptic Ulcer 24. Anti Histamines 25. Arthritis 26. Asthma 27. BPH
28. Colony and Erythrocyte Stimulating Factors 29. Hematinic Agents
30. Hyperuricemia and Gout 31. Immunosuppresants 32. Migraine
33. Nausea Medications 34. NSAID 35. Opioids Analgesic

Great tip! Thanks alot. (it's a yahoo! group for those that don't know--i joined under juliod_08)

Do those of you who have recently taken the PTCE think I could narrow drugs down to the top 200 of 2003, or should I still study for the over 500+ in my review book???

desperate bump....anyone else, pleassseee put your 2 cents in-- I know there are certified techs out there! (right?) :scared:

I'm good w/ calculations/law/assisting the pharmacists, but how in the world do you learn the 1000+ drug brand/generic names, theraputic uses, and adverse effects by heart, on top of common abbreviations and conversions?? I've thought about narrowing the 40+ drug classes by just knowing the class and then only drugs in that class that are in the top 200 drug list for 2003 and a few years more back; good idea?? Or should I just try to memorize all the drugs??
