Studying for Organic Chemistry 1

Hello, I need some advice for studying my first semester of orgo!

The class is based on David Klein's textbook. The first exam covers chapters 1-3 which will be given in 8 days. I've read the chapters, even read organic chemistry as a second language and I've done all the practice problems in the book. I've watched videos (organic chemistry tutor, khan academy, leah4sci) as well.

What more can I do to be successful? Not sure where to find more practice problems.

IDK what that actually covers. I believe if you go on the WileyPlus website and punch in your code there's a site called "ORION" . There's a gazillion practice problems on there for you to do.

If you look around on the internet I'm sure you can find a free PDF of Organic Chemistry by Maitland Jones, which is personally my favorite textbook, and full of practice problems, at least 50ish for each chapter. When I was in orgo 1, I would just make up problems for myself to do when I was in a situation like yours, and look to the professor/tutors for guidance. If you've put this much work into just the 1st 3 chapters, I'm sure you'll do fine. But try not to burn out early.

Ask the professor what study material will best prepare you for the test, and then study that.

know your basic electronegativity. More electronegative atoms have higher electron density and can act as a nucleophile. Areas of less electron density (say like a carbon surrounded by electronegative atoms) are electrophilic centers that nucleophiles can attack. #1 rule in organic: negative to positive. When drawing mechanisms, your arrows indicate the flow of electrons.

if you really say you have covered chapters that will be on your exam and done all the problems from the book/youtube ochem channels, then you should be good. Don't overwork yourself. Study for other classes or something. If you really want extra problems, then just google "organic chemistry pdf exam edu" and professors from different universities sometimes upload their old tests as practice.

The name Jones brings back such horrible memories, but 100% this. The book's practice problems are quite good and challenging. The only way to do well in orgo is to practice every single day.
