Hello All, I need advice

I really do not find these science topics interesting when I study them and therefore it is so boring and hard to study. I don't find it interesting when it gets down to the reallllllly molecular level of science and I have difficulty visualizing it.

some classes I like, some chapters I like, but the majority of it I don't.

I feel this is a big problem because I really want to be a dentist, but I just don't a lot of the material interesting. what the heck am I going to do.

This is like Kurk 2.0.

Grab a mirror. Ask yourself if this is right for you and buckle down for one hell of a ride.

Not everything is enjoyable. Do what you need to do to get where you need to be.

Does your school have a learning or cognition specialist? If so, make an appt! My school had one in the tutoring center that could meet with us and make study plans and teach you better study habits and skills. I never had to study in high school or for most of undergrad until I got to the science stuff like you're talking about. They really helped me out and I did much better with information retention and better on exams.

Time for self reflection. Not everything will be enjoyable. You probably won't enjoy reading in 90% of the classes you will take in Dental school but you have to get through it

I would think about the end goal. What is your end goal? What do you have to do to get to that end goal? If it is worth it, go for it. Just keep reminding yourself of then end goal.

im worried that I am the only one who is going for dental and doesn't find a lot of this stuff interesting. am I alone?

I don't care the least bit about physics but I force myself to study. The reason I do this even when I don't want to is because my competition will. Your competition will be getting interviews. Your competition will be getting the seat at your number one D school if you can't get good enough grades. You need to want it more than they do and you need to channel that desire into making yourself a better applicant.

Op choose a major you like and then take just the prerequisites for dentistry.
For example, major in history, geography, psychology or art!

What happened to him? lol I thought he dropped dentistry for law so he could sue physicians or something

To OP: what subjects in particular?

No, Kirk wanted to become a lawyer, but his family pressured him to pursue med school or dentistry, that's why he was miserable.

This was me early in my college career. Embrace the molecular. Yes it is difficult to visualize, but that improves over time. Put in the effort and decide that you want to be not just good, but great at it. I hated molecular level science, but when I decided I was going to try extra hard, I became good at it and found out I loved it. Now I work for a genomic diagnostics company while I’m applying because it is now fun! Keep the chin up, if you want to be happy you can be, just realize it may take time.

you don’t have to like it, you just have to do it. a lot of this stuff (especially stuff from undergrad like physics) is useless and is just made to test your patience. usually people cope by finding something that keeps them going, like a hobby, SO, exercise, etc. find what you like outside of school and do it

for instance, I Worte this thread when I was doing neuroscience. I was doing a very specific chapter talking about G protein channels and neurotransmitters and it was taking me forever to read it because it was so damn boring so I wrote this thread because I was worried that its gonna be like this in dental school and how the hell will I do it if I can't even read it

but in dental school I have to take all these bios. so what the heck am I gonna do then.

Honestly at that point it doesn't sound like you would enjoy dentistry anymore. Dentistry has A LOT of biology, some chemistry and ochem, but if you REALLY dread taking all these science classes, I'm not sure if becoming a dentist would be the right choice.

An oral surgeon once told our class (it was a P/F elective class for undergrad) that: "if the journey to become a dentist doesn't make you happy or isn't any fun, then arriving at your destination certainly won't change anything".

I mean, I also get burnt out here and there, sometimes getting tired of studying as well, but I think that's different than waking up everyday and hating/bored of studying science classes.

Just my 2 cents

I feel a similar comparison can be exercising. some people love exercising and the release from stress that it gives, while others run miles and miles dreading it but love the result and in the end it makes it all worth it even though they hate jogging for an hour a day, they love the way they look in the end and its all worth everything at the end of the day.

that's how I feel and what im holding onto. again, I can study chapters and can do well, but sometimes, there are just chapters that are SOOO boring and I don't enjoy it at all, but gotta keep the drive going!!!
