Hi guys,

I tried contacting the school and worldbridge regarding this but cannot get an answer! Perhaps someone here has already successfully completed the process whom is in my situation. I am applying for my visa as a self funded student. My understanding is the money for tuition, maintenance fees, and accommodation need to sit in my account for 28 days...However, must it sit there for the full 28 days BEFORE I can submit my application online. OR can I submit my application online while that money is still sitting there...Then I can set up my biometrics appointment...Then my understanding is after completing my biometrics I send in supporting documents (one being a letter from the bank that the money has been held in my account for 28 days) to the consulate...By the time I submit it to the consulate I figure the money will probably reach past 28 days of sitting in the account!!!

*Freaking out because if I CANNOT submit online applic until after 28 days of holding money in accnt...that means i can't submit online applic until first week of sept and I start school sept 27th!!😱

I'm not sure because I have student loans. I think SoBeVet may have done it your way, so (hopefully) maybe she'll add to this.

I believe that by the time they check your funds it needs to be within 28 days. However, if you live near by the consulate you can get a rush order where you do your biometrics and everything (plus hear a yes or no on the VISA) that same day and it's $99. I didn't live in Los Angeles, but I'm from the SF area, so I paid $150 ($164 and change with tax) for 2 day rush order processing. This was, however, closer to the middle of July (I was leaving in 2-3 weeks at that point). I mailed it out on Friday afternoon (just before 2pm). It arrived and was approved on Monday afternoon. My passport and VISA arrived the next day or it was possibly Wednesday.

If you're concerned about time, definitely do rush processing. It was worth it for me.

Hey, I didn't apply for a visa since I have an EU passport from spain. I won't be much help. However good luck, def take chii chans advice and rush deliver.

My bad SoBe! I couldn't remember if it was you or not, but I remember you didn't do it the federal loan method.

DogTyred informed me that it's flyhi who did the VISA with own funds. She's on QM2 and should be landing any day now so who knows when she'll be back on with internet.

Hmmm I did it with my own funds...I think we put money into my account, and then got a bank statement and a letter from my bank as proof, which I sent along with the Visa application....Once the visa went through, the money doesn't have to be there anymore, and can be in whatever account you wish...

I'm here...i'm HERE. I finally made it to Edinburgh and just catching up.

Ok, so yes, i'm self-funded, but had the funds in my account, so i did not pay too close attention to the details of the timeline and just sent in my most recent bank statement.

with that being said, i read through the Tier 4 guidelines pretty thoroughly and just went back to check for you. It does appear the funds have to be in your account no less than 1 month prior to the application. The application date should be the date you submit online (this I did not confirm, but almost positive).

You are right, you do not submit the hard copy of the visa app and all of the back up paperwork until after your biometrics (i believe you have one week to accomplish this), but the date of the application is what is going to cause you heart burn, i'm afraid. Since i did not think you would have a bank statement to provide for backup and would need a letter from your bank, i copied and pasted the criteria for the letter below......

iii.Letter from the student’s bank confirming funds covering a 28 day period ending no [FONT=Arial,Arial][FONT=Arial,Arial]more than 1 month before the date ofthe application..[FONT=Arial,Arial]
.[FONT=Arial,Arial][FONT=Arial,Arial]The student’s letter from a bank or building society should show:.
[FONT=Arial,Arial]the student’s name; or• .
[FONT=Arial,Arial]the name of the child’s parent(s) or legal guardian(s); and• .
[FONT=Arial,Arial]the account number; and• .
[FONT=Arial,Arial]the date of the letter; and• .
[FONT=Arial,Arial]the financial institution’s name and logo; and• .
[FONT=Arial,Arial]the money in the student’s account; and• .
[FONT=Arial,Arial]that there is enough money in the account (to cover your course fees and living costs)..

.
I hope i'm wrong about it and will try and find the definition of the 'date of application' for you, but this is the key element for you.

Good Luck. :luck::xf::xf::luck:

Dream,

Just to add something.....the visa confirmation was very, very quick for me and many others. I feel like you still have plenty of time. Deep breath....you will be OK.

Wow, thankyou ALL for your help! Each one of you were very helpful. Yeah flyhi I also believe the definition of the date of application is the date you submit it online....worldbridge wont confirm this...i emailed then and they cut copy and pasted their whole web page to me like 3 times even though I said it doesn't answer my question...I called them to and got no where with that! Thanks chii chan for the rush information!! That's a relief! I live maybe 1 hr from the consulate so I can hand deliver my supporting documents to! I just cannot wait until this whole visa process is over. VERY STRESSFUL!

This information is a bit late for you, but I found Worldbridge to be of no help whatsoever. They just told me they couldn't answer my questions and to read over the instructions. So frustrating.

sorry to thread-jack, but since you're all here anyway...

How are you supposed to show you have funds if you generally don't even get loan disbursements until after the semester has started? Also, the fed govt would be paying my tuition, fees, and housing, so I wouldn't have money in my account for those funds! I looked at the visa requirements for Australia and they talk about being able to show you have the funds for your whole course of study... does that mean all 5 years worth of money in your account already? That's pretty impossible for most people, I would think.

With the new(ish) student loan program (Direct Loans), the school originates the loan, so they would have to send you a letter showing you the amount that was given to you in loans for the academic year. That's what I had to send in for my UK visa. And you only need to show proof of funds for one school year. So if you're self-funded, you'd need the amount of tuition and the minimum requirement for cost of living for one year of schooling.

hey guys is anyone else having trouble trying to purchase the priority service. I went to purchase it today and there was no link for it. And now the additional services link isn't working. Im so frustrated since I was ready to send it out today.

It looks like it's down due to technical difficulties. :/ If you get priority, it only takes a few days. When are you leaving?

I plan on leaving Sept 5th. I called worldbrigde which costed $12 which is crazy and they say they no longer have that service. So I had to find an agency which they helped me find on their page. But instead of just paying the $150 for the expedite service, I now had to pay the agency $175 plus shipping each way fedex priority overnite which came out to $54 plus you still have the pay $150 for the consular fees to expedite.

I hope everything goes through, and I get my visa bc I do not want to pay for this again. they overcharge. I guess I will see tom or fri if im approved, wish me luck! :xf:

Mitshu I'm sure you'll be fine! I will have to pay those crazy fees to ..I cant submit my applic until sept 3d i think!! crazy!! Did you get a biometrics appt? If so, are there plenty of dates available? I'm just worried I have to submit so late and I wont get it all done it time!

-Mitshu by any chance are you going to the RVC to?! I know lei is! If so, are either of you in college grove? There's a group we made on facebook to find our roommates but so far looks like I'm the only one in my flat 🙂

Hopefully everything works out for us all!

I'm in College Grove! 😀

Mitshu: that's BS that Worldbridge told you. I just rechecked the website and everything is back up. I'll keep my fingers crossed that your visa comes through soon, though. :xf:

OMG... and I thought my visa process was stressful!
and Dreamcometrue, I'll just answer for Mitshu and says she's coming to Edinburgh!

Hey there were lots of biometrics appts..at least in my area. I was able to go in 2 days after I submitted but I could of gone the next day if I wanted. So you should be fine.

And Finleymonkey is correct I am going to edinburgh.

Dream- Same thing with me, but I have my biometrics appt. Tues and then my priority appt. @ the consulate Thurs. I was waiting on my loan letter, since I'm not using my own funds, and boy did it take longer than I expected!! Can you just not submit until the 3rd because of your biometrics appt.?
I'll be going to RVC too, but living in private accomodation with my husband and our dog. 😀 I know you're about 1hr from your consulate. Are you in the LA area by chance...?
