Hi everyone

currently trying to study and review for the USMLEs and I've noticed a problem with my study techniques and highlighting.....I end up highlighting too much! Then I end up wrecking a nice book like Harrison's or Tintinalli cause I open it up a few days or a week later and its full of highlighter, and I'm like urg!!!

Questions / Poll....

1) What highlighting techniques do you guys use?

2) In terms of note taking / transcribing what you're reading, how do you do it? corresponding with highlighting?

Any other general study tips?

haha, I'm a highlighting freak too. Nice to meet you.

For the reason you just stated (highlight too much) I don't highlight. The only time I use highlighter is when I am reading something that I will need to write a response to. Then I use the highlighter to highlight passages I want to address. (or think I could address)

When I am studying though I just read the thing and then answer some questions later. If I need to look something up later I use the index.

highlight to your heart's desire lol
it keeps you more attentive while you are reading!!
dotn worry about ruining books...this is what you bought them for🙂

Harrison's for Step 1?

Harrison's for Step 1?

haha no, we have an integrated PBL program, and I am planning on using Harrison's for Step 2CK, as in first aid it's suggested to do CK after your IM rotation? am I not correct on that? If not please inform me!

Any textbooks recommendations for Step 2CK? I am anticipating Step 2CS to be a breeze, as I do quite well clinically, it's the theory I am struggling with unfortunately....
