What are some topics/concepts for the sciences that you guys had trouble remembering and had to constantly review to make sure you wouldn't forget on test day?

I'm taking mine on Monday and just want to see if there is anything out there at the last minute that might be worth brushing up on

i think retaining all the info is tough in itself, but the key to beating the DAT is really about knowing what to remember the most.

Pages 45-49 of the DAT user manual has a sample breakdown for the amount of questions per topic, so that might help narrow down on what to focus more heavily on memorizing.

good luck 🙂

Thank you

I was kind of just hoping people would throw out anything that crossed their minds though so I can see if it's something I am comfortable or not comfortable with before heading into the exam

haha no problem, I'm just gonna randomly type some things out then XD

-common ions and their charges http://datbootcamp.com/blog/common-ions-you-need-to-know/

-NMR/IR values

-what do you need for hoffman rearrangement? (reagent and the starting material)

-what does adding H3O+ / Heat do to a carboxylic acid group?

-when does a nucleophile attack the least substituted side on an epoxide? when does it attack the most substituted side?

-how do you add an aldehyde to a benzene? (what are the reagents/solvent)

-do you know the difference between NaNH2/NH3 and Na/NH3 being used as reagent/solvent on Alkynes?

-and pretty much anything in your notes that doesnt have anything to do with concepts and makes memorizing them very painful.

Thanks a lot! I seriously blanked out on adding an aldehyde to a benzene. I knew it would be FC-acylation type of thing, but I forgot the exact reagents were CO, HCl/AlCl3. Chad even snuck it in there which I had totally ignored haha.

For me, it was transcription and translation. I don't know why. I printed out a diagram of the processes and put them on the wall in front of my desk, that way whenever I looked up, they were there. Also, stereochemistry was somewhat annoying, but with practice, you'll master every concept.

I don't know if you will see this before your test but ... taxonomy. I reviewed it two days before and it helped for one question.

Others were anti/syn addition ones.

Phase changes (exo vs. endo)

Degrees of unsaturation equation.

cis/trans MP vs. BP

see-saw shape for OC.

equation of a circle, ellipse, cylinder volume

At the end of the day, nothing I really crammed the night before really showed up.

Good Luck! 👍
