I applied at their store about 2 weeks ago because when I called they said they had an opening for a pharmacy tech. I got called in for an interview and the guy told me that I should be hearing something within the next week to set up a second one. He gave me a quiz too. When I didn't hear anything, I called to follow up and he told me that his manager gave him the go ahead to hire someone and that I seemed really bright because I got everything right on that quiz. He said I should hear back early this week. Now he just called and told me they are no longer going to hire anyone. I talked to another one of my friends and she said they actually even hired her and then cancelled the day she was supposed to show up saying they made a mistake and aren't hiring anyone anymore.WTH?! 😡 I passed up a temp job waiting for you guys to freaking decide!

I just need to vent... and find another job. 🙁

Do you have an Eckerd Pharmacy in your area? I went to the Eckered website and sent an e-mail just to the general 'contact us' address and told them where I lived and what I was looking for. I actually asked if I could do volunteer work for them, and in about a week the district manager wrote an email to me and told me that they could offer me a job. He was real nice about it and now I'm working there as a drug clerk. Maybe you could try that or even call them if there's one in your area.

No, there's no Eckards around here. All we have is Walgreens, CVS, Cubs, Osco, Dominicks, Target, Walmart and maybe K-Mart (if they're still open). I've applied to all of them, and I've called around and they all say they are not hiring. I even left a message for the DM of Walgreens and I haven't heard back. I wonder if Meijer has a pharmacy? This is just so frustrating for me though. I feel like I'm wasting my whole summer waiting around for something. This is a big part of the reason why I decided to do my rotations for pharm school during the summer. This is just a big waste of time and money. People say I should enjoy the summer, but how can I enjoy it if I'm broke?

That's exactly why I did AGO also. Yes, Meijer has a pharmacy, try them and Kmart. Also, try hospitals, they may be hiring too (even if you don't want to do hospital, it would be very, very good experience especially before rotations). GOOD LUCK

My friend told me that if you want a job as a pharm tech to tell them you've been accepted to a pharmacy college (bust out your acceptance letter around now) & tell them you'd be willing to work for them in the future as an intern (apparently interns are in high demand) but only if they hire you now as a pharm tech.

I've already finished my first year in pharm school and a that is always a major point that I stress when inquiring about open positions. Even with that year behind me, there's still no luck. 👎

CVS did that to my once ! they hired me and fired me in less than 20 minutes last year ! I decided that when I start pharmacy school this fall and look for places to intern at, I won't even bother applying to CVS/pharmacy.
I am sorry to hear about your situation, maybe you should try hospitals now, if you haven't.

Good luck !

Did you apply as an intern or a tech? I work for CVS in the D.C. area and they treat their techs like crap and their interns like gold. The trick for pharmacy student applying for a job is to contact a district manager or someone in central who oversees INTERNS because they know what to do. Don't waste your time going to individual stores.

I got turned down by Eckerd's once, and ater I met their Intern Trainer at an expo and complained that I got rejected 2 years ago. He said they should never have rejected me and that they were ALWAYS looking for interns. I told him I belong to CVS now hehe.

They're always out for fresh meat. Just make it clear that you are an INTERN and take it to the district/regional level.

I applied as a tech... Thanks for your suggestions, I will make a note of that for next year !

It’s a generally held fact that if you apply as an Intern vs. a Tech you are more likely to get the position because they are the future of pharmacy and that the Intern that works for you today could potentially be a Pharmacist for you tomorrow (The same can hold true for Techs as well). Furthermore if you are treated poorly by the company you work for you are in a position to make them look bad and to spread the word that hey.... CVS doesn’t treat their employees well, I wouldn’t work for them. I feel very strongly that we should not allow ourselves to be taken advantage of; there are many other opportunities available. I think this extends to students who are doing an externship as well. Just because you are doing a rotation doesn’t mean you should be treated poorly or in a fashion different from how they would treat one of their clinical/staff pharmacists. Remember, you do have a say about the future of that site when evaluation time rolls around!

Companies prefer Interns because they know an Intern will be staying for a while (turnover rate) and (probably more professional) than a tech who can care less about a 6 dollars an hour job.

There's an intern at the pharmacy that I work at. Do you have any idea how much they get paid? I was just curious and I'm not really comfortable asking her. Do you have to be in pharmacy school for a couple years before you can be an intern or can you be an intern during any break?

I applied as a tech, because on all of those online or in store employee applications there is no option for intern. But whenever I do get an interview, they know that I'm a pharmacy student and will be an intern rather than a tech if hired. To whoever asked about intern pay- my friend works for Walgreens and during our first year started out at $13/hr, now is at $15/hr and I think it goes up $2 every year.

Intern pay in Illinois for a Walgreens's Intern is $14.95/hr and it is adjusted $2/hr as you advance throught the pharmacy program.

I worked for Eckerds/CVS for 2 1/2 yrs. and am soo glad I am not working for that company. They dont believe in raises and they have poor management, they're unorganized, and have a crappy comp. system. It seems that company is being run by ******ed barely graduated high school graduates (if that makes any sense..lol). Anyways...you get my point. Go to Walgrens if possible cause they are a great company. 👍
