Stupid Gen Chem Question

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I think it should be no. Even if you are at the triple point, a gas has a higher entropy than solid and liquid. When it changes to a solid or liquid, it gives off energy, and that's why the entropy decreases because the molecules don't have enough kinetic energy to move around as much. The only way for them to have equal entropy would be if there was no energy required to change between different phases.
Another way to think about is that the only thing we can infer from the triple point is that all reactions are at equilibrium (deltaG = 0), and the only thing we can really infer from a reaction at equilibrium is that the rate of products and reactants formation is constant.
That's the way I would think about it, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

On a phase diagram, at the triple point, are the entropies of the solid, liquid, and gaseous phases equal?

That sounds along the lines of what I was thinking. I only ask because I was working on the ACS 2011 exam, and there are a bunch of questions which don't make ANY SENSE. There was one question where they asked for the term of going from a gaseous state to a solid state. It should be deposition, but according to them, the answer is condensation. WTF?

LOL yeah that's completely wrong, it should be deposition. What exactly is ACS exam, if you don't mind me asking?

The American Chemical Society. I have never heard of it before, but people in the past have recommended it for gen chem practice problems.

I see, well good luck with your DAT. Check out DAT Destroyer and datQvault for bio as well, I think they were on par with my performance on the actual DAT.

Yea, got them. Im on Destroyer for the second time and I just took DatQVault exam 6 and got a 19 (which is freaking me out because thats really low).

thats actually a great question, not stupid 😉

dont worry about your datqvault score, just learn as much as you can from the material.

i was getting more 19s 1 or 2 20s, and i got a 21 on dat real bio -- youre going to do fine, keep up the good work!

I agree with jeff, I started using datQvault after I did my American DAT. I spent 2 weeks after my test reviewing Bio again for cDAT, and I got 1 point below what I had actually scored on the DAT on about half of the tests including Test 6. But, I think it is definitely harder then the actual ADA DAT, some of the questions are pretty detailed. Don't let one test bring you down, how did you do on the previous ones?

PS. Make sure you do all the tests, 1 question on my cDAT was pretty similar to the one I came across in datQvault. It wasn't the same question, but it made me realize I had not gone over specific subtopic, so I googled it and it helped. Also, rather then doing the tests I found practicing questions based on Sections much more helpful, so make sure you do that after as well.

I ranged from 18's to low 20's, but mostly 18's and 19's. I originally scored an 18 on the first DatQVault test before I started studying, and I took it again about a month and a half later and scored a 23. If I get a question wrong, I make a notecard of it on Anki. Even if I get a question right, and I am hesitant to whether I completely know it or not, I make a notecard on Anki also. I also completed the science section of the first Achiever test and also scored a 19 in bio. I scored a 16TS which has KILLED my confidence, so Im starting to kick it into overdrive and ramp things up. I have heard Achiever kills your confidence, but it motivates you to study.

whens your exam?
you sound like you're going to be in good shape, keep up the good work!

I haven't tried Achiever so I can't say much about that, but I think if you are putting in time for Bio, (and it certainly seems like you are), it will pay eventually pay off. Bio is all about reading as much as you can, so you are able to recognize the answer when presented a few options. Exposing yourself to as much info as you can is the best way to go about it I think, and you seem to be doing that. Did you by any chance do the ADA 2009 test?

I haven't completed the ADA 2009 yet, but I will pretty soon. I am shooting to take my test next month because I am taking a few extra science classes in the spring before I apply, which I better get A's in (histology, and probably molecular bio or ecology). I have about 800 Anki notecards for BIO, ~650 for GC, and around 600 for orgo which I review every day before I actually start studying.

That's really good, you seem very well prepared. My advice to you would be to not focus too much on the Bio section; as many have said before, it's VERY random. I think chem is MUCH easier than Bio because once you know a concept you know you will get it right. So focus a lot on Chem, I used Chad's videos before doing my ADA DAT, and I did the Destroyer last week before my cDAT, and I was able to answer around 95% of them. Chad's videos and quizzes are golden. I think I did the quizzes 4-5 times by now.
Anyhow, since you have the ADA2009 test, can you tell me what mark you get in Bio if you 4 wrong, and what do you get in Chem if you get 2 wrong, and what is the score of 18 in RC equivalent to? Thanks!
