Exactly what certifications will we/should we be getting when we begin our training, i.e., is it ACLS, ATLS, or both? thanks

I would think ACLS, PALS, and maybe ATLS depending on program. I bet you neonatal ALS is probably optional...of course current residents can probably answer this question better than me.

you must be BLS and ACLS to begin training. After that the ATLS and PALS training varies based on program. Many places will have an orientation month, week whatever at at the beginning of residency during which time you will complete that training. Other programs, like Henry Ford, actually won't certify you in ATLS and PALS until the END of your first year. THey feel that you will be more prepared and closer to using those at that time then in the first year when you aren't gonna be running the trauma/codes.

Henry Ford was most def different with orientation at the end of first yr. I will contact my program and ask what they want me to do prior to my arrival!
