What are the clinical difference between an MD and a DO (besides the fact that it seems MD's look down on DO's). What can an MD do that a DO can't?

yeah thats a stupid question alright...

lets start the MD/DO flame war again why dont we?

in general, DOs can do everything MDs do

DO can do osteopathic manipulation or something like that... OMM I think. Plus they are able to see the patient as a whole person whereas MDs necessarily view a patient as a disease vector.

The 1st part is true, the 2nd part is a myth.

MD's do NOT look down at DO's, it is usually pre-meds that do not know the difference that think this way or act this way...

which one makes more money?😕

i don't think that's true. my sister is more biased against DO's than I am. anecdotal, but whatever.

well, D.O.s can go into pretty much any residency that an MD grad can, so I dont think within specialties there would be appreciable variation in salary. BUT, D.O.s tend to be generalist physicians while a larger percentage of M.Ds become specialists, so on average they probably make a little less............

Relatively speaking, DOs may find it more difficult to specialize, and lots of them end up as generalists. Still, though, my mother works at a cardiology hospital as a nurse and says that DO interns seem a lot more together than do the MDs. That may have to do with the fact that the DOs who end up in cardiology are brilliant to begin with, I don't know. But that's my anecdotal evidence.

DOs can presrcibe sex ointments and lotions

id rather go to undergrad for 6 years than go the DO route...no offense to anyone out there
