Hi, my pre-med advisor makes me wonder the way she does things from time to time so thought i would ask about this "way to write" style for DO app is necessary. Anyway, she says that we need to write in the past tense when describing all the extracurriculars and everything else that you put into the 15 available boxes in the application...you know what im talking about? Its a major pain to make sense out of everything while writing in the past tense so just wondering if this is necessary? In other words, is this what everyone else was told and did for their application?

Consistency in grammatical tense makes descriptions and essays easier to read, but I wouldn't necessarily use past tense to describe activities you are currently engaged in.

I'd say it depends on the question being asked. Could you give an example?

The writing style is supposed to be a series of haiku. For example:

Found Osteopath
He was Family Medicine
I shadowed him.

I think if you're worrying about tense, you are focusing on the wrong things. Make sure all the content is there, then re-write it so that it flows and is easy for the reader to follow. Once you have done that, get each blurb critiqued by your advisor and some other trusted sources, then adjust accordingly.

Protip: When choosing a language to write in, select English for the best odds of acceptance.

That's the first I think I've laughed all week. This must be why I only got one interview haha...

I feel that it should read like a resume. Old stuff in past tense and new stuff in present tense.

You liked that? Well, how about this:

I want to be DO
But I come from poor family
LECOM, Here I Come!
