Just when I was settling into fourth year, thinking I was done with NBME shelf exams forever, my school has announced that we will be taking a new NBME sub-I medicine exam on Friday. I can't really find any info on it, aside from the fact that it's a new exam (circa 2008).

Have any fourth year students had experience with this beast? I would appreciate any pearls and will certainly return the favor once I've taken it.

We're almost done!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

WOW... so this is a different exam / focus from the regular IM shelf exam? 👎

I had to take this exam, but it did not count toward our Sub-I grade. Supposedly our school had agreed to help the NBME collect normative data for the exam (mean, SD, etc. I presume).

I did not study specifically for the exam and still did not find it overly difficult. It reminded me of Step 2 CK with perhaps more focus on inpatient adult medicine and less primary care/preventive medicine, peds, etc.

We have to take this as well at the end of the month. So far I've heard it's a 75 question test on a computer. And I thought I was done with shelf exams!!!
