Hi there,

I am applying during the 2015-2016 cycle. I have heard many recommendations and suggestions that submitting earlier is better (i.e., as soon as AMCAS allows the application to be submitted). I can likely have all materials ready to be submitted by June 2 or soon after. BUT, I am going on a medical service trip from June 8 - June 14th. I have not done anything like this before, so this would be a new experience that I expect to be meaningful, that I would like to include in my application. If I wait until I get back, and submit the primary app by June 15th, would that be too late? I just don't know if the 2 week wait will cause a much longer delay in verification.

Another option I could do would be to submit the app before I leave on the trip, and then hope to be able to talk about the trip in my secondaries, or to try to get a Letter from the organization/trip leader to help show my role.

Any advice or input is appreciated! Please let me know what you think. Thank you in advance!

Apply early. The trip won't help you as much as a 12 day head start will help. And, heaven forbid, what if you get really sick or injured and end up being unable to lift your head from your pillow for a month... your application could be delayed so long that your season would be over before it begins. Apply early and save the Haiti story for your interviews.
