I waited about three weeks and by the time I got around to doing it, my app was hopelessly mired in the backlog. The folks at AMCAS are seriously slow, if you want an interview before December, your best bet is to turn your AMCAS in during the very first week of June.

I submitted mine June 16th last year and had 8 interviews before December (I turned down the three that were offered after December). Most, in fact, were in Late September and throughout October. It is good to get it in early, but the difference between June 2nd and June 8th is not that great.

Do you think there's any harm in waiting until you get your MCAT scores? According to what I've seen posted here, the princeton review's saying that scores will be available online on June 7th.

From what I hear, waiting until you MCAT score are released before submitting your application won't hinder you significantly. Plus, it will give you a better idea of which schools you might want to add or remove from your application list. Of course, if you know for sure that you did well on the MCAT, you should submit the app asap.

Isn't it also going to help to wait until we get the April scores so that we can put on AMCAS that we will be taking it over in August if that's going to be the case??

Having it in the first week of June is not essential, but having it in relatively early is important. I submitted mine around June 23-24, and had 5 of my interviews done by the beginning of October. The important thing is to get your file complete at schools ASAP--that is, send in LORs and secondaries as quickly as you can get them done. I think I had most of them in by mid- to late-August.

i asked this before, but i'm going to ask again to be absolutely sure:

am i still submitting it "early" if I submit my application at the beginning of July (1st or 2nd)? I did have plans for submitting it at the beginning of June, but..well...some issues came up.

Thanks

That timing will be just fine! Really, I promise 😉

Yes. I am just a paranoid. Probably I had a really crappy PS or something, but I definately didn't recieve many interviews early. I had a strong application and I didn't have my first interview until December. I always thought it was because I submitted my AMCAS relatively late, but it was probably the PS. 🙁
Still I can tell you that it is aggravating to wait for AMCAS to finish processing your application, and the longer you wait the worse it is. That is a fact.

*****edit*****
Unless of coarse you wait so long that everyone else is already done, but that is definitely a bad idea. 😉

I heard that the amcas is actually sent to the med schools in batches, the first batch being sent mid-july. Therefore technically, someone submitting their amcas today and someone doing it early July would get their stuff sent together, no?

Not from my experience. Do a search of all the AMCAS frustration threads last year. I know for sure that people who submitted on the same day were not always finished the same day, or even the same week or month for that matter. AMCAS has a tendency to lose transcripts. If you don't submit early at least send those asap, then call to make sure they have them on file.

You fill find that AMCAS will drive you crazy. If you are lucky, they will process your application in 4 weeks with no delays with your transcripts or your application.....................HOWEVER..........................there will be a big number of folks that will send AMCAS 12 transcripts from the same school and still be told they didn't receive it and then there will be those who will submit their application in June and then wait and wait and will read about other SDNers that submitted after them and were processed before them.

So sit back, be patient, find humor and somehow find a way to enjoy the ride.

That might have been the case before it was electronic, but I doubt it's the case now. The people that have said that haven't quoted anything that I can find.

If there is one thing to say, turn in your AMCAS soon...you'll want to get those secondaries ASAP. And then, don't waste any time with those secondaries (like I did 😳 ).

AMCAS sends your application out pretty randomly, as far as I can tell. You should have sent in your transcripts long ago, because that is what takes the longest. My application went out to different schools on different days, for no clear reason. Some schools were a week and a half later than the first schools to receive it. I think that there is a loose rule of "first come, first serve", so I doubt that the June 1st, July 1st people will be sent out the same day/week.

Thanks. I wonder where I first heard that. I'm pretty sure it was a thread here on SDN. Anyway, I had my transcripts sent the first day AMCAS was out and they confirmed receipt of them like 2 weeks ago. I guess I just need to finish up my final polish of the PS and get it in soonest possible then....Thank goodness for SDN, I was hosestly going to take my time til Late June...

so let's say my transcript was sent out on last wednesday..how long should i wait to call AAMC if i STILL haven't received email notification? thanks

yea, if they have your transcripts, I sent transcripts in may and amcas at the end of june after getting MCAT scores which in my case was the deciding factor on whether or not to apply. Everything was complete about a week after I sent AMCAS and it wasn't made "available" to the schools until July 14th. So, if you send it on the first day of June or the last, the schools won't get it until mid july. I got three interviews in october.

almost forgot, I f^cked up and didn't list my AP courses which gave me sophomore standing in my first year, AMCAS corrected this and mine still went out in the first group.

Call the school NOW. I had the same problem and remedied it thie AM. They got AMCAS's address incorrect, and theyre sending out my transcripts today, two weeks after requesting them. Check today, so it wont hold you back any further- saying that, it took about a week for all of my other transcripts to be sent and to get AMCAS notification.

I would think you should be getting an email soon. I requested my transcripts to be sent out in mid May, and AMCAS emailed me back within 10 days saying they had received all my transcripts. I wouldnt worry too much just yet, if by friday you havent gotten an email, Id give them a call. Good luck.

I'm really starting to realize that SDNers are big-time overachievers. I have started AMCAS, but most of my friends haven't even looked at it (and I'd be surprised if they really knew what it is yet).

Okay, so I've been working on my amcas application so i can just adjust my designated schools when i get my mcat scores from the april exam. Should I ask my colleges to send transcripts to amcas now? Do I wait until I have sent my amcas online stuff? I'm sorry if these are stupid confused questions!

If your spring grades are on your transcript, you should definitely send out your transcript requests ASAP. You do not have to wait until you have submitted your AMCAS.

Send your transcripts NOW! You probably should have sent them in a month or two ago.
You cannot change your designated schools after you have certified your application, but you can add additional schools. A safe bet would be to designate those few schools to which you are applying no matter what and then add additional schools after your MCAT scores come in if you are worried. I knew about what my scores would be, so it didn't make a difference, but it does for many.

did it! phew.... thought about waiting for the mcat, but i'll just send it to more schools if i do well enough.

🙂

what if you haven't gotten a ltter of recommendatio from yoru schools commettie?
