Submitting Primary App in september too late?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Check out verification threads from previous years to answer your first question, check out similar threads that were posted in the last week for the answer to your second question. Long story short, September is worse than June, but most people aren't willing to wait a whole year - if you will apply one way or the other, does it matter if/how much September hurts you?

I am wondering how long it will take to get verified. Is submitting your primary app in middle September too late?

yes.
youll get verified minimum 6 weeks later, which would mean end of october. max 8 weeks later = mid november. so youll get secondaries done in early-mid november
really really late

most schools have december deadlines, and think about it. theyve been receiving apps since august, and youd be finally complete about with just a couple weeks to spare before their final deadline, which means that barring a miraculous application of super strong stats and an incredible lifestory youll be literally lost in a pile of thousands of thousands of applications

If you're an All-Star and are applying to non-rolling schools then you'll be fine...if not, you're gonna have a bad time.

My school will not write a committee letter for anyone who submits their AMCAS after August 16th, so to me, that seems like the invisible deadline for one's application to get due consideration. Any later, and the late-mess might/will become a disadvantage.

Definitely late, but not impossible. It really depends on how much of a 'superstar' you are, whatever that means.

You must also factor in that there's the 8 week processing time, which is not normal. I don't imagine medical schools patiently waiting and moving their timelines back for everyone's convenience...

I agree with others who say that you'll be fine if you're a very competitive applicant. The whole reason some very early applicants interview in August only to be waitlisted until February is because schools want to wait to see whether any bigger fish apply. If you're a great applicant, they'll accept you before they accept an average applicant off of the waitlist.

Either way, don't spend time stressing about it. There's nothing you can do about it now (aside from prewriting your secondaries, which you should absolutely do). Just be thorough, careful and confident. 🙂

Even if you are a stellar applicant, you might still be at a disadvantage
