Any low gpa freshman year success stories, particularly from people that didn't go to pretigious undergraduate universities?

No, if you don't maintain a 4.0 your first year you're basically screwed as far as med school goes.

Joking aside, of course there are. A vast majority of people have lower than usual GPAs when they transition into college. It is expected, which is why these aren't so much 'success stories' as they are normal trials encountered by the majority of students.

Whatever you are stressing out about, I can assure you is fairly trivial. Unless you failed every course, you are fine. Freshmen paranoia seems to be strong today.

There are lots of low GPA success stories floating around SDN, and not just of people who did poorly their freshman year. Search around here and you will find plenty of stories that people have already written. Also, check out the 62 pages (and counting) of the Low GPA Thread.

But, as the above poster said, if you're worried about not doing well enough during your freshman year, there is still plenty of time to improve and bring up your GPA. Freshman year can be difficult because you are adjusting to new surroundings, expectations, and work (I would think most adcoms understand that). Hopefully, after your first year, you have identified what kept you from doing well this year, and you have learned study habits and routines that will help you do better in the future. :luck:
