I tested 5/24 and scored a 504. I've been debating whether to retake this cycle and would appreciate any feedback on your experiences. Specifically, for students that did retake in the summer, did you feel it was ultimately worth having the higher score despite your app being reviewed later in the cycle?

My AAMC FL scores were in the 508-509 range and I feel I could improve my score if I retook it.

As for my AMCAS app, I was verified 7/9/19 and have started receiving secondaries. Ideally, I'd love to stay in CA but am open to applying OOS. Greatly appreciate any advice 🙂

For reference, my stats are:
  • URM (Mexican), First Gen, SES disadvantaged
  • CA resident
  • Undergrad: Stanford
  • Non-trad, 5 years out
  • sGPA: 3.39, overall GPA: 3.35
  • Post bacc after undergrad, 3.95 gpa
  • Strong ECs
    • Mission trip to Nicaragua and Ecuador, worked with under-resourced communities in hospital (full-time post grad), volunteered at free clinic for 3 years, strong leadership roles
  • Strong letters of rec

I wouldn’t retake this cycle. See what happens and if you have to reapply then you can consider retaking. You’ve already been verified and your primary is being reviewed at various schools and most likely your secondaries(congrats on the interview) . Further schools are under no obligation to wait for or even consider a new MCAT score. Good luck with this cycle.

I suggest applying to these schools with your stats:
UC Davis
UC Irvine
UC Riverside (if you are from that region)
Loma Linda
Kaiser
California University
Arizona (Tucson and Phoenix)
Quinnipiac
Vermont
New York Medical College
Seton Hall
Drexel
Temple
George Washington
Georgetown
NOVA MD
Oakland Beaumont
Wayne State
Medical College Wisconsin
Loyola
Rosalind Franklin
Creighton
