when, if ANYONE could make a claim for it being genetic and not environmental, it's Pacific Islanders.

I wonder how much of their OK health despite obesity is a result of their famously low stress environment/culture.

My parents built a house in Hawaii a while ago. It took forever, because if the surf was up or the fish were biting, nobody would show up to work. (Apparently the surf is usually up, and the fish are perpetually hungry.)

I'm not sure how it was, but it's not like that now. I mean, in the English speaking Caribbean, people are fat, diabetic, hypertensive, and construction is slow and shoddy. I'm happily impressed by the work ethic (as I am prone to say, the biggest losers in Hawai'i are the mainland white people).

They did good work, on their own schedule. This was ~15 years ago on the big island.
